Guest guest
Just curious why is Big Pharm the villain while CAM with many made up diseases and useless recommendations not. I think each health item, dietary supplement, drug, disease, etc, needs to stand on its own. IMHO adrenal fatigue has no basis - not that more reliable research may show otherwise but it isn't there now. The reason drugs are so prevalent is that people demand them instead of going the much harder route of diet and exercise (from birth). I can't tell you how angry patients would get at my husband when he refused to write an antibiotic prescription when it wasn't needed. Or how many people refuse to change diet but instead want to eat all the crap they are used to eating but still want their diabetic and cholesterol meds. How many people want gastric bypass surgery with all its side effects as opposed to losing weight a more traditional way (even though we know prevention is the better answer). I wonder how many people have purchased the $70 caffeine laced leggings to lose weight? Or how many people buy weight loss supplements just to find most have prescription drugs i nthem illegally. Or how many healthy people have their " adjustments " with a chiro when no research exists that it is needed or helps. End of rant.... > > > > Great point in case, and sadly true! > > Jacquelyn A. Guest guest
I think you are confusing the two types of approaches. Those miracle, promise-the-world cures and caffeine laced leggings type " cures " are not what CAM is all about. It's serious medicine, and the doctors who are involved are highly intelligent and well educated - Weil, Sinatra, Deepak Chopra, Mark Hyman, just to name a few. The people who go to CAM docs are those who are health oriented and on the track of self discipline already. The go to the CAM docs because they take the time to listen, and because they approach the body as a biologic system rather than just a set of symptoms to be dealt with by pharmaceutical drugs. Guest guest
My mother has done research at the Burzynski clinic for many years and I assure you it is not about scare tactics and $$$. Although his treatment method may not be appropriate for every cancer patient, it has helped many. Of course I have a personal connection to this topic however it is so important not to generalize and make assumptions of those trying to help others with non-traditional methods. If everyone thought that way we would never make advancements in medicine or nutrition. a a Mrowczynski- RD, LD Sent from my iPhone I agree x 5 with Ortiz! Guest guest
I start with MNT & CAM too! Rx only if need until MNT & CAM eliminate the need for Rx meds. Think about the Dx Hypertension! MDs must prescribe Rx BP meds to prevent stroke but the body has usually increase pressure because it is not getting adequate blood flow. Adequate blood is needed to get every nutrient to every part of the body! The minute a person starts on BP meds, malnutition begins. Get MNT and CAM to get off meds and get blood pressure back to normal and nutrients flowing! I agree with Jacqui and regarding the MD's approach to medicine! I just sent a link to CAM. Guest guest
I think that although we are bound by our code of ethics to be evidence-based, we must also keep an open mind. Many of the diseases that are now dx were not always that way. An example that comes to mind is HIV/AIDS. That dx started out as a case study of two men with similar symptoms. Treatments that were common in the past are now seen as barbaric at worst, ineffective at best. Diseases and treatments evolve over time. In situations of uncertainty, I remember a quote from Men In Black: Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe.
