If you think of the colon as a muscle, think of fiber as weights.

Most folks make the mistake of STARTING with high fiber with

diverticulosis.

This is too heavy of lifting for a flabby colon...

Start low fiber and gradually exercise that muscle to a higher and higher

fiber content for better " intestinal fitness "

If you go very high fiber all at once, and everything stops moving, you

actually get MORE bloating and more diverticuli, " stretch marks " in the colon.

If you look at a healthy colon it kinda looks like a " six pack " (if you

squint)

Think of it as " personal training from ileus to anus "

(the world's most repulsive jingle :)

My understanding is that diverticulitis can be so severe that clear liquids

are ordered until infection is abated but diverticulosis is just a high

fiber diet now even allowing seeds and nuts (previously taken out). I

remember years ago a low fiber diet was recommended which obviously

exacerbated the disease.

Are you requesting diverticulitis or diverticulosis?

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm assuming that someone who has

diverticulitis is most likely going to be bedbound until they recover from

the inflammation, but when there is no inflammation present the condition

is simply referred to as diverticulosis.

Is this correct? Thanks again everyone.
