Guest guest
Thank you, thank you....my sentiments exactly!! Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry What are the rules for this site I for one would certainly appreciate my message space not to be clogged up with post of a personal opinion nature that ramble on forever. Surely as professionals we should be able to recognize if a debate opens between members that a private chat room or mailing personally would be more appropriate. Please consider. Guest guest
Something you may want to do is to set up a filter in your email client to accept messages from a listserv so they don't go in your inbox. That way you get stuff right away but you only read it when you want. And if you want to search on a topic it is all right there for you. I use google (gmail) and i set up a folder for the listserv mail so it doesn't clog the inbox but I can read everything in a quick glance when I have time. I welcome all thoughts - it is helpful to see how people think and to view hot topics. <http://nutritioneducationstore.com> Judy Doherty, PC II, Publisher and Chef Food and Health Communications <http://foodandhealth.com> EPicks Newsletter <http://clicks.skem1.com/signup/?c=CWUmV> | Cell: | Email <judydoherty@...?subject=to%20Judy> Facebook <http://facebook.com/foodandhealth> Linkedin <http://linkedin.com/in/foodandhealth> Salad Secrets iPad <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets-for-ipad/id431028101?mt=8#> Salad Secrets iPhone <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets/id386087367?mt=8#> On Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 8:29 AM, Carol S. Guest guest
I put my list serve emails in their own folders, too. I'm almost to the top of this one for today! I've skipped most of them. Don't even know anything about them other than the title. It's easy to just focus on the ones I'm interested in. That way I don't have to complain about topics submitted by others that bore or " offend " me. (Actually, I rarely choose to be offended.) W. I use google (gmail) and i set up a folder for the listserv mail so it doesn't clog the inbox but I can read everything in a quick glance when I have time. I welcome all thoughts - it is helpful to see how people think and to view hot topics. <http://nutritioneducationstore.com> Judy Doherty, PC II, Publisher and Chef Food and Health Communications <http://foodandhealth.com> EPicks Newsletter <http://clicks.skem1.com/signup/?c=CWUmV> | Cell: | Email <judydoherty@...<mailto:judydoherty%40foodandhealth.com>?subject=t\ o%20Judy> Facebook <http://facebook.com/foodandhealth> Linkedin <http://linkedin.com/in/foodandhealth> Salad Secrets iPad <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets-for-ipad/id431028101?mt=8#<http://\ itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets-for-ipad/id431028101?mt=8>> Salad Secrets iPhone <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets/id386087367?mt=8#<http://itunes.ap\ ple.com/us/app/salad-secrets/id386087367?mt=8>> On Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 8:29 AM, Carol S. Guest guest
Yes - you can just delete things you don't want to read based on topic and you do not have to open them. I do not ever want to tell someone not to speak - I just delete. I have learned a lot of things from off-topic threads. One example was a book list where everyone was writing their favorite book. Someone listed a great book that had nothing to do with food or nutrition and I loved it. I filled my kindle that week! <http://nutritioneducationstore.com> Judy Doherty, PC II, Publisher and Chef Food and Health Communications <http://foodandhealth.com> EPicks Newsletter <http://clicks.skem1.com/signup/?c=CWUmV> | Cell: | Email <judydoherty@...?subject=to%20Judy> Facebook <http://facebook.com/foodandhealth> Linkedin <http://linkedin.com/in/foodandhealth> Salad Secrets iPad <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets-for-ipad/id431028101?mt=8#> Salad Secrets iPhone <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/salad-secrets/id386087367?mt=8#> > ** > > > I put my list serve emails in their own folders, too. Guest guest
I do delete the things am not interested in however I have just spent 10 minutes deleting the messages my message generated. I like to hear about new hot topics too. But what does " lying to your kids " have to do with nutrition? Sounds like a topic for personal communication more than over a large group interested in Nutrition topics. ________________________________ From: rd-usa [mailto:rd-usa ] On Behalf Of Rowell, Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2011 9:09 AM To: 'rd-usa ' Subject: RE: What are the rules for this site Don't open the discussions you aren't interested in. Guest guest
Perfect !!! I love the idea of the folders - going to do this myself. Your statement " I rarely choose to be offended " is my philosophy as well - it makes debate invigorating rather than highly emotional. What's the point of getting offended? Guest guest
In case you missed it (and I wouldn't blame you if you did), the nutrition related discussion (lying to your kids) was about how best to motivate kids/people to change their behavior to be more active. I think it was very well related to nutrition and health. It only takes a second to delete messages if they are all in the same folder. I read what I want to, then press CNTRL,ALT, Delete buttons all at the same time. All gone! I posted a couple of truly " personal " posts about my boys and physical activity. You will note the words " personal info " or something like that in the subject. W. Guest guest
In the context of pretense vs. lying. Motivating people with honesty, not dishonesty. It fit right in if you read the whole thing. On the other hand, we don't have to parse every word to make absolutely sure each and every statement is nutrition related. W. Guest guest
Physical activity has a lot to do with every dietitian's line of work, as it goes hand in hand with health and fitness, BP and metabolic control. There is actually an excellent relationship in the original message. It was the other comments that weren't of much interest and not totally related, so I deleted most, responded once, then many ppl became aggressive so I bowed out and ducked out before the shooting started. I hope that I am never just about nutrition, but a complete and versatile person who is interested and interesting, and can handle many topics, not just nutritional related topics. This is a group forum and I don't recall reading any rules that only nutrition topics can be posted, although I believe when I joined I did read something about general rules of conduct as far as other areas of behavior expectations.
