Guest guest
Sharing this government document that just became available. http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/Publications/DietaryGuidelines/2010/PublicTestimony/Pub\ licTestimonyTranscript-7-8-10.pdf.pdf This is the transcription of the 51 public speakers who had 3 minutes each to present their concerns/beliefs/research to the USDA Dietary Guideline panel back in 7/10. I have all morning reading the document. A diverse group of speakers including a mom, the Sugar Growers of America, ADA, AHA, Food Coalitions, Dairy Council, Culinary Arts, Physicians for Responsible Medicine, US Fisheries, a holistic nutrition student, Center for Science and Public Interest, Weston A Price, Salt Institute, Bakers Association, Egg Producers, Healthy baby Coalition, Nutrition and Metabolism Society, Cattle Association, low carb researchers, Vegetarian Union, Organic Trade, a sports nutrition author, Cancer Association, Coop Extension, PETA, Milk producers, IFT, Pork Association, Cereal Society, and the Meat Institute. My first impressions...... there are a lot of passionate people who wish the USDA guidelines endorsed their particular agenda. The ADA spokesperson, said very little in her 3 minutes, basically, " the ADA believes in evidence based nutrition " . The best marketing sound bites in my opinion were from the Sugar Association who stated that sugar increases the palatability of our food supply and therefore the intake of nutrient rich foods. Wow ...... that is some good marketing. The last think I saw last evening was a TV ad during Letterman for Poptarts, advertised as " a fun food " . Not exactly a good source of nutrients.
