Guest guest
If you still believe that losing weight is just calories burned verses calories consumed you are in the wrong line of work. Yes, I have issues with size zero vegan dietitians when their adam's apple show and I can count their ribs across the room in the v-neck of their blouse. I am fat but that has more to do with the side affects of two rounds of lipid lowering drugs, menopause and hypothyroidism. Gee, an hour a day of vigorous exercise is all it takes. Lets see I have job, then I come home to my second job cooking and running a household then there is my third job home PT for my husband. Life is not so simple for many of us. I live in an area where a bag of chips cost $8.00 and soda is $8-$12 a 12 pack. The last tomato I picked up cost $7.00, that I paid for. Junk food is not high on my to buy list. As for vegans and vegetarians I have major issues in pushing this life style on children. Our Safety Officer decided to go vegetarian I told him if he lost another 5 pounds he needs to come see me. He feels weighing a 130 lb. at 5' 10 " is great. I don't believe in low fat or no fat fake food, or foods with sugar (high Fructose Corn syrup) added. I have never met a chip I did not like, I don't eat fruit due to a fructose malabsorption and I don't limit real fats. Does this make me a bad dietitian the food police think so, then again I seen what they eat and they think I eat bad. Guest guest
, whoever you are? If I'm reading this correctly, you've just stated a generalization that is not only crass, but rude and cruel. Will you please explain the last sentence? I'm hoping in your zeal you neglected a clarification as to the source of this statement. Guest guest
Have to agree with Digna, that last sentence is over the top rude. " Your comment here is something I have lived with all of my professional life. I am far from lazy. How dare you make this critical, judgemental statement. If this is your stance, this is just another reason why dietitians like me have never felt as if we belong in the group of dietitian, even though we are very proficient and compassionate in our profession. It is sad, , that if you mean what you have said here, you should really try sitting on your posterior instead of wearing it for a hat. Guest guest
Ahh, Carol Carol Carol. How can anyone discriminate against you? You wear your attitude elegantly, and you're so very articulate. Often I read your comments to my husband, who also has a tongue like a stiletto, and he enjoys them as much as I do, even when they're caused by a painful experience. I love your honesty, I love your sense of humor, your realistic view of the world and those around you. Most of all, I respect your expertise and your dedication to your residents and work. It is indeed unfortunate that so many people base their opinion about a person on appearances, ignorance, and prejudice. I hope you continue to kick butt as often as it's necessary, bc you know you have most of us behind you, and watching your back. Ride on!!! Digna From: rd-usa [mailto:rd-usa ] On Behalf Of Carol S. Guest guest
Digna, You brought a smile to my face on this hump day! Thank you! Carol P.S. You are one of the privileged few dietitians on my Facebook page cause you understand me. Thank you. (sent via Blackberry) " You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try. Guest guest
Interesting, one time 4 of us Dietitians were talking and we all had eating disordered students (anorexic) in our Dietetic programs. I always wonder about these future RDs years later. Sometimes there is a misconception that thin means healthy. > > > I indeed did not want to make it a generalized statement. Guest guest
I feel practice what we preach is that we eat well despite the body makeup we have, unfortunately we all don't have thin bodies and sometimes someone who is not thin can relate better to a patient than someone who is IBW. Unfortunately, the RDs that I worked with are overweight due to their lack of activity. @Carol--my deepest apologies for the unintentional insult. To clarify, the RDs that I have worked do not seem to have the care and compassion that your heart holds for your patients. I think as RDs in general we are all discriminated upon, i.e. we must all eat healthy ALL the time.
