Doesn't know that obesity is MULTIFACTORIAL. It's not as simple as calories in and calories out. I suggest we table this discussion right now. This is not worth our time. Sharon Salomon, M.S., R.D. Guest guest
REALLY sad thing is that this attitude is widespread in the general population when they see overweight individuals. I worked with an overweight Dietitian years ago and a few patients said to me they didn't listen to her because she must not know what she was talking about. To me they were using that as an excuse or a scapegoat. Most loved her. My LPN students told me they would have discriminated against me if I had been overweight. Mind you over 1/2 smoked and were overweight PLUS 3/4 had horrible diets. I asked were they going to all of sudden have pristine health habits once they became an LPN - that shut them up!! I touched on some of that in my " homemade " movie - not just weight but what we must eat or not eat according to others perception of the Dietitian!!! I worked with an Oncologist who smoked but overcame any stigma by being an excellent MD - patients loved him!! When they finish Chemo, they all get a bouquet of flowers. > > > People! Guest guest
My late husband (who struggled with his weight) also said that he didn't trust the " skinny dietitians " - because they didn't understand the problems that overweight people had in trying to lose weight. So how could they help you???  A.  Most internet quotations are not accurate. Guest guest
Although RDs may present with a spectrum of BMI measurements, I hope it is safe to say that RDs eat to support overall health. I hope RDs are cheaper to insure because of our overall diets. I hope as a whole, RDs are healthier than the average person. Guest guest
Hate to tell you, but in my many decades in this career, I have mostly found my jobs to be very stressful, not the other way around. Perhaps it's the types of positions I've held, mostly in management and finance, and I've always joked with my clinical staff that they have the easiest job in the house, bc once done for the day they get to go home and someone else takes over. Now that I'm doing clinical work again, I have called each one and apologize for my ingnorant and arrogant statements; their jobs aren't any easier than mine were during the time we worked together. Now that I'm doing what they did, I fully understand the pressure they work under. So no, I doubt our jobs are so unstressful. That data must be garbage. :{ Digna Re: This is for all those dietitians who have > > > > discriminated against me during my career > > > > > > > > Issues I have with this article: ABCNews thinking RD and nutritionist > > is > > > > interchangeable; believing that size zero vegan RDs aren't > > discriminated > > > > against as well. Guest guest
I can't imagine any poll of dietitians supporting that dietetics is one of the least stress-ful jobs- Maybe the statistics came from Abraham Lincoln - - like the quotation in A's signature - - - " Most internet quotations are not accurate " - Abraham Lincoln --- I laughed Stress/cortisol is linked to obesity - losing my stressful job helped me lose weight - not a method I recommend though. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2750854/ Depression, Cortisol Reactivity and Obesity in Childhood and AdolescenceJ Adolesc Health. 2009 October; 45(4): 344–350.
