Guest guest
I have just updated my Blackberry and purchased Dietary Software. I have some questions. Some may be obvious, some may not. I am using the Mifflin St Jeor for calorie needs. Do I also use an activity factor, stress factor, etc like I would for the Benedict equation? The Dietary Software appears to calculate protein needs based on IBW. Is everyone doing this? I have routinely been following the KISS principle of 1 ml/kcal. I know that this is one of the acceptable calculations. Is anyone else doing this? Thanks, Carol -- " It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation. Guest guest
We take MStJ (REE) and use 1.2-1.4 for activity/stress factor for most patients. Up to 1.5 for wound care. If weight loss is part of the goal (or to avoid overfeeding obesity), after calculation reduce by 250-500 kcals. It's in the ADA Evidence Library as the next best after Penn State (which we use for our intubated/ICU patients).
