I had a pair of really cheap " Crocs " I was thinking about going ahead and

getting a better pair....I have just never had to work when my feet were this

bad....I have worked with them hurting and small little pains but not this big

of a flare up......it worries me that I will not be able to keep up.

for those of you are blessed to still be able to work i have a

question.... how do u deal with RA and working? with the fatigue i

have had lately and the pain i am not sure how i am doing to be able

to work (currently on maternity leave, got a few DAYS left), i go

back to work on monday and have no idea how i am going to deal with

it. I am a nurse in a long term care faciltiy/ nursing home and i am

up and down, on my feet a lot. I just cannot imagine working with the

way i feel right now. I HAVE to work if I plan on keeping my house

and feeding my kids, it is not a choice.

i have also been watching the shoe post about shoes and work, anyone

have suggestions for good shoes that are not dressy....tie up

sneakers KILL me right now, i have been wearing slippers for the past

2 or 3 weeks, even out in public. i use to wear burkenstocks clog

type shoes but they got to be soo expensive to buy, i guess worth it

though.

anyway i just was curious how others dealt with work and everything

when feeling like crud.

Dear Amber,

I am also a nurse. I work the 12 hour night shift every Friday and

Saturday night. It is murder! But, I, like you have to work. I

have a freshman @ Arizona State and a senior in HS who will start @

York College in PA in the fall. I also have an 8-yr old with a

congenital heart defect, he is in 3rd grade. Also I am 51 years

old. Trying to at least get on the day shift so I will get some

rest.

As for shoes we at least have many comfortable choices for work in a

variety of prices. Got a pair of Rockers clogs on clearance for

$10.00. Have been wearing them for 2 years! Mostly wear crocs at

home and will buy them for work the next time I get shoes - maybe

when I get on the day shift!

The only advise I can give is rest all you can and ask for help when

you need it. I know much easier said than done.

Also honestly I try not to think about the future but with our jobs

the future is often thrown in our face and unavoidable. Keep your

chin up.

Amber,

I am in the same boat as you. I am also an RN, and there is no choice, I have

to work. It takes everything I have inside of me to get out of bed, and get to

work. I am so fatigued until about 10am. Then, I come home and just lay on the

couch. I pray every day that we can pay off our bills so I can cut down my

hours.

I take Tramadol for pain at work and it helps somewhat. My knees and hands get

so sore at work that some nights I take a Vicodin, then back to Tramadol during

the day. I cannot tell you how much money I have spent looking for something to

give me more energy.

I started on Minocycline a week ago, so I am hoping for some good results from

that.

Would split shifts be a possibility?

I am blessed that I can get by on a part time job

and some days they give me split shifts.

Three hours in the morning.

Three to five hours at night.

It never hurts to ask.

Particulary if you are RNs.

Perhaps someone else where you work

would be open to such a work schedule.

With the shortage of nurses today, I'm sure

some hospitals might be open to such a negotiation.

I do not mean this as an insult in any way, shape or form.

But as a patient, I don't think any of us would want our

nurses to be fatigued to the point that y'all are speaking.

Good Luck,

Shauna
