Guest guest
Dehydration and activity can both cause " elevated "  BG. When people are active the liver can release glucose. If not enough insulin released (and it is often suppressed during exercise) to cover, the BG go up. But then there is increased insulin sensitivity from the exercise which can lower it afterwards.  Also, we all have increased in BG after eating (your post didn't mention what/when he ate). With mitochondrial disease, I think the worry is low BG w/ fasting. I haven't heard of any problems with transient elevated BG. His mother posted today, in hot weather, that the child's sugar level was 83 in the morning, 146 in the afternoon inside before he went swimming, and 340 after being outside in the pool. His temp was also 100.6. Eating and meds no change. Can the heat do this, or could it be dehydration? Or the mito disease? Any thoughts? Colleen V.
