Hi,

A friend was diagnosed with colon cancer and has already lost 10 pounds and

hasn't even started any tx yet.

He wants to know what is generally recommended for cancer pts through

chemo/radiation for weight maintenance.

This is not my area so if you know anything on this topic, please let me

know what is generally recommended.

TIA

julie

Depends on symptoms - diarrhea or constipation, etc. If nausea is an issue

anti-nausea med may be needed. The weight loss can be a sign of anxiety and

depression (discuss with MD) due to diagnosis. I usually recommended

psyllium (small amounts and slowly add). PLUS keep the protein up - many

when not feeling well tend to decrease protein intake. Avoid dietary

supplements unless discussed with MD and/or RD.
