Guest guest
Hi all, It looks like my information is outdated I guess. Basically a study showed that Enbrel and MTX in combo were no more effective than Enbrel alone. http://www.hopkins-arthritis.som.jhmi.edu/edu/eular2002/psoriatic.html > > > > > > > > [
Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have been on both MTX and Enbrel now for about 5 months continuously and had an odd reaction that I haven't experienced. I've taken MTX alone for a while before I started the Enbrel, and have had in the early stages of beginning this med, that I would get a little low in energy and a very slight queeziness, but nothing severe. Now that I'm on both meds, things have been pretty benign. I haven't had much to complain about as far as rections other than the typical sking itching at the injection site for the Enbrel and the red rash. But, it usially goes a way in a couple days. Here's what happened yesterday when I took both my meds. (I have always taken them together.) About an hour later, I started feeling quite queezy, then a severe metallic taste came up and caused the queeziness to increase. I didn't actually ever get sick, just kept feeling more and more queezy. Is this reaction normal? I've never had it this bad and prolonged for this long either. I'm wiped out and still feel queezy and have that awful metallic taste in my mouth. I'm very curious to know if others experience this, or if this is something I should tell my doctor about. THanks, Les
Guest guest
Hi Les, I am now both on Enbrel and MTX. I've only taken Enbrel once so far, but I can't imagine taking it on the same day as the mtx. I take 8 mtx and it just makes me fuzzy, kind of cognitively impairs me for a bit after the 4th one! When I took the enbrel, I had nothing at the injection site, but I got tired, and stiff at the neck and shoulders, and had a headache all day. I know that for me to do both on the same day would be problematic. I am also really sensitive to meds too. Guest guest
---Hi Heidi, Thanks, maybe that's my problem. I take them together. I've been taking them this way for about 6 months or more now, so I don't know what caused my issues this time around. I hope your side effects improve in time. I'd hate to have to deal with a headache and stiff neck that's not related to RA/spondylitis. Which is what my docs say I have. Take care and feel better. Guest guest
Hi! I, too have had issues with taking them on the same day. I had evolved into doing that, & started having on-going yeast infection, even underarms & under my breasts. After several months, it clicked that the problem started when I started taking them on the same day. Now, I do one mid-week, & the other on the week-end. My Dr. agreed that for some people, taking them both at one time is just too much. I hardly ever have the problem now. Judy <leslielick777@...> wrote: ---Hi Heidi, Thanks, maybe that's my problem. Guest guest
For 2 years I took MTX every day and Enbrel twice a week. On the day I did both, I would take the MTX in the morning and the Enbrel in the evening. I think the 12 hour difference helped avoid any side effects. I now take Arava instead of MTX but I still maintain the same cycle. I also have 4 other meds I take for my heart and I split them up between morning and night also. I never take a handful at once but rather try to take one at a time waiting a few minutes or maybe even a half hour before taking the next. I know it helped me so it might be a schedule that can help someone else. HUGZ, PeggyH Re: [ ] Re: Enbrel/MTX Hi! I, too have had issues with taking them on the same day. Guest guest
--- THe nurse at my rheummy's office called and told me that the doctor wants me to stop the MTX and that they would draw more blood next week at my regular appt. The symptoms went away between the 2nd and 3rd day after taking the MTX/Enbrel on Sunday. I'm interested to see what they think is worth stopping the MTX. Thanks, Les > > For 2 years I took MTX every day and Enbrel twice a week. On the day I did both, I would take the MTX in the morning and the Enbrel in the evening. Guest guest
You should check with your doctor about the side effects. That's always the safest course of action. I've been taking MTX for 2 years and always have a lot of side effects. The enbrel was added about 6 months, with just the site reactions to deal with. When my rheumy started me on the enbrel, she said make sure I don't take them together. To keep them as apart as possible. So I take my enbrel on Tuesday night and mtx on Friday night. Good luck!!
