CHAIRMAN OF the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association and State Road Transport Corporation Shambhu Nath Singh said that there was a need to check the rapid spread of HIV in the country. Speaking as the chief guest at the three-day international conference on AIDS, he said people should enjoy a safe lifestyle that would also help in checking the spread of HIV menace. The seminar was organised by the psychology department of the MGKV in association with UNICEF, UP State AIDS Control Society. The massive level of awareness amongst the masses against the AIDS is the best way to check this menace, he said. He also said that people should be sympathetic towards people suffering from AIDS. He further added that the social rights of AIDS patients must be safeguarded. On the occasion, the secretary general of Indian AIDS Control Society and noted medical doctor on AIDS, Dr Ishwar Gilada, who established the first HIV clinic in Mumbai in 1985, said much had been done in connection with the campaign against HIV in India, but much remains to be accomplished. He further said that the number of AIDs patients in UP and Bihar may increase rapidly if precaution was not taken at the earliest. UP head of UNICEF Dr Nirmal said the motto of the conference was to give detailed information about AIDS amongst the participants and youth.
