About AHF:

AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION, Established in 1987 is the largest non-

profit, non-governmental HIV/AIDS organization in the United States.

AHF specializes in providing HIV/AIDS medical care and currently

serves over 17,000 patients in the United States regardless of their

medical insurance status or ability to pay at fourteen outpatient

clinics and one inpatient facility located in California and Florida.

AHF Global program provides technical assistance to and works in

partnership with governments, people living with HIV/AIDS, and local

stakeholders to establish sustainable, scalable, and replicable

HIV/AIDS treatment and care models in 15countries. AHF currently

operates HIV/AIDS clinics that provide life-saving antiretroviral

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

AIDS Healthcare Foundation is looking for a committed and focused

individual for the position of Advocacy Officer – cum – coordinator

to provide leadership and spearhead AHF advocacy strategies in India.

Liaise and maintain relationship with other organizations involved in

advocacy and activist work for people living with HIVAIDS. The

position requires a graduate or a post graduate with a proven record/

experience of working with HIVAIDS. A person who can deliver

effective advocacy plans, cutting edge policy on HIVAIDS with

knowledge of the epidemic and current HIVAIDS response by the

government or nongovernmental organization in the field of advocacy.

Key qualifications:

• A graduate, post graduate in Arts, Social Sciences, Law,

advocacy, communication or other discipline related to advocacy.

• At least three (3) years of relevant experience in HIVAIDS

related work, activism

• Must posses an adequate computer skills including use of

internet/ e-mail application and MS-Office software, such as Word,

Excel, PowerPoint, etc.;

• Ability to meet deadlines and to manage multiple priorities

while working as part of a team;

• Team player service-minded and able to work under pressure;

• Available to start working in March 2007

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Initiate, generate, designed and establish advocacy

strategies on HIVAIDS issues to assist the fight against HIVAIDS and

help PLHA to discover its voice and make their voices heard.

• Provide leadership for AHF in advocacy and work in synergy

with partner NGO's involved in addressing HIVAIDS related issues

particularly to testing, universal access to ART drugs, second line

of drugs, stigma and discrimination and other human rights issues

faces by PLHAs.

• Represent AHF in advocacy related meetings, workshop, and

forums at local, national level.

• Conduct meetings related to various advocacy strategies

• Liaise with active activist groups, positive groups and those

working in the field of HIVAIDS advocacy.

• Identify advocacy issues and target audiences such as

government officials, policy makers, religious leaders, employers,

health professionals, communities, and media and donor agencies.

• Strive to raise awareness and increase understanding of the

need for HIVAIDS related services among the general population.

• Should assist, initiate and support campaigns for universal

treatment access, uphold the rights of people with HIVAIDS.

•A probation period of three months.
