What does one consider a breakdown? I don't mean to be ignorant but does

that mean more depression? That's a risk when changing antidepressants. It's on

the label. They don't work for everyone- I hope you both find one that works

better for you. I'm sure it was frightening.

It's actually not unusual to have long term resistent depression that turns

out to be bipolar disorder.

i have had depression before all my diagnosis it just added to it. I also

have complex regional pain syndrome and psoriasis so all those added into one

major breakdown. I havent really been given an official diagnosis of

bipolar, but i have a mother, grandmother and two kids with it.. I also

trained as

a mental health advocate so im pretty accustomed to mental health issues.

Yes that's what i take it for my complex regional pain syndrome along with

another antieleptic for that as well. They are finding that anti eleptic meds

and antidepressants work well for nerve pain as well.

Some work and some don't. I've seen many helped by it too... but it's not

for everyone. Sometimes it's hard to find the right medication.

I don't mean to pry but did they diagnose you with bipolar disorder? That's

the first thing I consider when someone reacts in such a way with an

SSRI/SNRI.

That does sound very scary.

I am really sorry you had a breakdown while on Cymbalta. Finding the right

medication, especially anti-depressants, can be very tricky.

I am convinced Cymblata saved my life. I was on Effexor XR for the longest time

and then after I had gastric bypass surgery it stopped working. I played the

anti-depressant game for a few months and went into a SEVERE depression..... My

doctor prescribed Cymbalta and honest to goodness.... I felt even better than I

did on the Effexor XR.

If this ever stops working... I am soooo scrwed! LOL

I hate antidepressants too! I wish those were not the basic things used to treat

FMS. I take Effexor XR but if I accidentally miss a dose, I can tell the next

day. My emotions are haywire, small things set me off into anger and tears and

scary thoughts. I'm now super careful to not miss the dose. I'm supposed to be

taking 2 a day, but I never upped it, I kept it at the one pill a day. This may

be why my anxiety is still out of control too, but I hate the effects!

Hi,

I wanted to add my 2 bits in here. My husband grew up with and alcoholic

father and manipulative mother. He was a recovering alcoholic when I met

him. I did not know this until 3 or more years later.

Anyway he would go thru huge long periods of black depressed moods. He

would go to counseling and fool the Dr with his charm and all was well and I

was " nuts " .

Finally I came to my wits e nd told him to get on meds or I was leaving. He

talked to his Dr. she gave him cymbalta. It helped him mentally and a

wonderful side effect was no RA pain!!!!!

Hugs,

Abby,

I am an open book, no prying here. No, I have never been diagnosed bi-polar.

There are manic and polar times yes? I don't think I have that. Just

constant pain. I am clinically depressed but don't take anti-depressants

after Wellbutrin caused me petite mal seizures....docs say I am too sensitve

to medications. Lucky me.

Peace and fabulous smellies!

That's why I think these meds should be prescribed by a psychiatrist or

PMHNP. Also, when discontinuing these medications, they shouldn't be stopped

cold

turkey but tapered off slowly.
