Curious...ovarian/cervical problems auto-immune related!??!

OK...I just wanted to throw this out there. A few of us have posted

that we have had simular diagnoses that are not RA/fibromyalgia

related. I wanted to see how many of us have had " female " problems

and have an auto-immune disease.

I myself have RA/fibro and have been diangosed w/ endometriosis, I had

ovarian cysts that had to be removed surgically and I am looking at

having to get a hysterectomy. I have fertility issues as well.

Is this something that is auto-immune related and should we tell our

rheumatologist?

Hi , my reproductive endocrinologist was the most interested in the

connection. It was funny, he forgot my history and was addressing the PCOS. He

said that in endo, if there's 1 endocrinopathy, it pays to look for others. He

said, well, you're unusual b/c you only have 1 d/o. I said . . . uh, actually,

I'm hypothyroid and I have RA. He laughed and said, yes, that's how it often

plays out. He said he'd be willing to be that a similar cluster of genes was

responsible for all 3 conditions.

My rheumy at the time said it wasn't connected and the last ob/gyn I

saw (the one who said I had endometriosis and PCOS and puntured my

bowel) was more concerned about the 3 miscarriages I had. I am seeing

a new rheumy and I see her next week and I will tell her about our

symptoms.

Please keep us informed. After 6 documented miscarriages prior to RA

diagnosis, I am most curious.

PS The two I had are awesome human beings in their late twenties, early

thirties.

I have posted before about this. There is research in Europe

regarding the realtionship between auto-immune disorders and sex

hormones. I am still looking into it and trying to figure it all out.

But yes I have " female " problems and RA, and I think that there is a

connection.

I plan on it, I am wondering if they are related. I had one

miscarriage pre RA and 2 post RA. I want kids, but my husband and I

had planned on adopting before I found out about PCOS and

endometriosis. I am glad that you were able to have kids. I added my

info into the database.

I do know that my mom had similar problems as well (it seems I inherited most of

the " illnesses " from my mother's side of the family. My sister just got the

migraines. (But on the plus side, the Alzheimer's comes from my dad's side of

the family....and seems to travel through the women....so hopefully that's a

good sign....I get the nasty stuff from my mom....so hopefully that will pass me

up, eh?)
