Guest guest
Hi all... Just thought I would add a little insight into the beef and pork issue. Since I also have gout...I have done a lot more research about food items that cause problems with RA and Gout and OA. I try to stay far away from beef as possible. I don't eat hamburgers, steak, roast beef...etc. First..just a small amount causes a gout flare up with me, and it's no fun at all. As for pork, I find that if the pork is really fatty, it also cause problems with my OA and RA. So when I do eat pork, I try to only eat pork tenderloin, and since I do 99% of the cooking in our hourse, I make sure I trim all the fat from my tenderloin. I also find that eating pork at restaurants to be iffy at best...unless the chef is really good and will make sure your pork is trimmed properly. As a man that enjoys really spicy, hot food I do find that I have to take it easy on the chili peppers, as they can also cause a gout flare up. But...as I am sure everyone has experienced...sometimes...it doesn't matter what you do or don't eat....you have a flare up and are in a lot of pain. My doctors have been kind and let me start wearing my knee brace again, and I have been a lot more comfortable at work lately. It's been over a year since I have been able to wear it, and I had forgotten how much it helped me. It's made work a lot less painful!!!! Plus..the kids love to come up and ask to see my " robot leg! " They think my brace is really cool, and love to look at it. I do know I enjoy the nice warm weather we are having in Houston this weekend...it was 78 here yesterday. About the same today. We have had to run the A/C some this weekend!!!! Ya'll take care of yourselves!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Larry, I try to watch the beef (red meat) intake as well. Try to eat more fish high in omega-3's. However, i have never been much of a meat eater. I prefer vegetables. My grandfather had a vegetable garden when I was growing up, so that is what I ate a lot of. Have you ever had fried green tomatoes? They are really good and was his favorite. I copied everything my grandfather ate. I adored him. He was thin and ate small portions, mostly vegetables -- little and often. However, he still suffered from gout and passed away from prostate cancer at 84 yrs.. I think if he had gone to the doctor more often he could have been with me longer. My flares come from green bell peppers and paprika same day after eating them, soy also gives an immediate flare. I love both soy and green peppers but try to stay away from them and season my food with garlic and onions, salt and pepper. I might have already mentioned that here or maybe at the other RA support group. There our focus is more on diet and exercise instead of or in combination with pharmaceuticals to control RA and disease. My weakness is sweets. I have cut out sodas. i don't bring them in the house or I would be tempted. I cut out chocolate but still eat cakes and pies, espeically over the holidays. But I think if I can do away with the high sugar intake and the red meats. i will have better control of the flare-ups. Another thing I am thinking of trying is a raw diet. Here is one of many web sites talking about it if you are interested in more information on it. Hopefully, this year we can all find relief from the RA/OA,lupus, FM, all autoimmune and chronic pain conditions. http://www.alissacohen.com/ Best wishes to all, Ebony > > Hi all... > > Just thought I would add a little insight into the beef and pork issue.
