Guest guest
I was for about 4 yrs, It took me a couple months to really feel any relief, but it was great for me. I could not walk real good before the combo and within a couple months I felt great. My doc took me off the plaquenil since the combo stopped working before we introduced humira in Dec. I don't have any experience with Methotrexate yet. I was started on Plaquenil two years ago and this past year we added Sulfasalazine to that. My next step is Methotrexate or Enbrel. It took my Plaquenil 6 months to begin working as did the Sulfasalazine. I know many on here have experience with methotrexate and can give you great advice. I hope that it begins working for you very soon! jodie <_jodiehoho@..._ (mailto:jodiehoho@...) > wrote: Hi, I'm newly diagnosed with RA and my Rheumy started me on weekly doses of Methotrexate. Guest guest
I wonder if some prednisone might give you some quick relief while you wait for the methotrexate to kick in? Guest guest
My doctor said she would normally give me prednisone, but because I'm also a type 1 diabetic that the steroids could make my blood sugars hard to control. So, she gave me vicodin to take for the pain which doesn't really work and I can't see myself taking vicodin on a daily basis either! Sigh. I just want to feel normal again!! Guest guest
I can really understand how you feel. I was taking 2 Tylenol because the vicodin didn't work very well on me either. Also I spent a lot of time sleeping or in a hot bath/shower and used wrap banadges which seemed to help some because they kept me from moving my hands and wrists too much. It all takes some time for the rheumy to get you on the best meds for you but it will get more managable. Guest guest
Jodie, I also have that combination of RA and diabetes, but fortunately mine is type 2. Prednisone certainly is not a good medication for diabetics. It has a lot of other bad side effects, too. Hopefully you'll get some relief soon; if not, maybe she'll add another DMARD or switch to another one. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi.. I'm new here but I just started Methotrexate last week and I am doing a clincial study for newly diagnosed RA. I take Methotrexate and a shot of Humira one time a week. When speaking to others in my Doctors office who had been on this combo of meds, they raved. However, I also in the beginning am taking two Aleeve or Motrin during the day when I really need it. I find that they relieve the inflamation which is what is causing all the pain. I could take narcotics, but I'm guessing they wouldn't work very well since they aren't really an NSAID. I am still in shock that I even have RA. This hit me like a ton of bricks at age 46.
