Guest guest
Good luck with the Enbrel. It is working so well for me. after four injections, not a sign of a bruise, rash, paleness, etc., like my rheumy warned me. I sincerely hope you have as good a result from it as me. Anybody heard from Jayesh? Kinda worried about him. I don't know why God intended that I needed to have titanium plates in both wrists. But He didn't let me die on the operating table -- TWICE. (three times if you count the time I had to have my nose fixed.) But He also sent me a great rheumatologist and a medication that is working very well. Can we please keep religion and politics off this list? To the new gal from Ireland - have you tried Ultravate cream or ointment? Some of your comments really hit home with me, especially about putting some of the ointments on someone else. Keep that great sense of humor. It really helps with this unpleasantness we call P and PA. All do to DDD (degenerative disc disease). It involved a fusion, a cage, and 2 titanium rods. I know that our group founder, , has also just recently had a fusion. My trouble was at L5-S1. From the little you mentioned it sounds as though a lamenectomy might suit you. I did ask my neuro about disc replacement and he said that it would be years if ever that they would do it. The most recent study was using a silicon filled pouch a kin to a breast implant and it did not fair well due to the huge amounts of weight and pressure that is placed on a disk. I hope some of this is helpful info to you. Please feel free to E-mail me personally if you want any more info. My neuro is one of the best in the SE. He went to Emory and practiced a bit in FL before coming to NC. Good luck to you!
Guest guest
I had read about your surgery.Am definately not wanting another surgery as I have had three in the last 2 years that required a hospital stay of three days or more. My neuro is young. He just finished a spinal fellowship at the spine institute at Cedar Sinai in 2001. He did say if the pain got to be unmag\nagable he would operate. Hi Jackie, That sounds like nerves and nothing to do with the Enbrel. My sister gets like that when she looks at needles and practically passing out from having blood taken or even at the sight of blood. It will get easier with each injection. Trust me!!! Guest guest
I was also fortunate to gain almost complete relief from Enbrel within a few days, but fortunately without the migraines. In fact, I take my injections on Wednesday and on Tuesday I can feel the pain and stiffness coming back, Wednesday it gets worse, but on Thursday I have none at all. ~Marie
Guest guest
Hi, I just stated Enbrel, and its the weekly dose. The first dose caused me a horrible headache and muscle stiffness in the neck and shoulder area, nothing at the injection site, and next day i felt fine. Tuesday will be dose 2...hopefully this will fade in time. Guest guest
Marie, Thank you for the reply... I thought it strange that I got relief so quickly... I'm hoping over the next couple of weeks, the migraines get less and less and the Enbrel starts working for longer periods of time. Guest guest
Bonnie, I still use the twice-weekly 25mg Enbrel. I tried the once-weekly, and it didn't seem to last as long for me as the other. That might be something to think about, but then you are just starting it, and it hasn't had any time to build up in your system. It's wonderful that it gave you such quick results. Guest guest
that is normal, I take my shots on friday and by thursday I start feeling some of the pain come back. I have been on enbrel since December. As for the pain you feel on wednesday that will go away with time the more you get the enbrel into your system. It takes a good 4 to 6 weeks to get the full benefits of enbrel but will tell you it does wonders. Guest guest
When I first started enbrel I would get headaches within a few weeks they went away. [ ] First enbrel shot Has anyone experienced almost immediate relief from Enbrel? I got my first shot last Tuesday, and my joints were great on Wednesday but I gained a migraine headache... Ugh! Then on Thursday, I still had a pretty intense headache but not as bad as the day prior and my joints were a little tender but a breeze compared to what I'm used too dealing with. My headache left as of Friday! Yea! Apparently my joints are getting a little worse each day now since I got that first shot... I can hardly wait to see what happens this week after I get the second shot... My Doctor said it could take up to three months to work, but could sometimes work as little as two weeks... But wow, I swear I got relief from the first one... Also, has anyone else gained migraines from Enbrel? I mean debilitating migraines where it hurts to open your eyes or even turn your head... Thanks everyone! Bonnie R.

Guest guest
Heidi, Tuesday will be my second dose as well... I am nervous about giving myself the shot and anxious about getting the relief I felt those first few days... As I wrote earlier, I got migraines the first two days after the first shot, but I also have felt the stiffness in the neck.. I'm praying that the migraines will go away after the first few shots... Guest guest
Bonnie, did you have a history of migraines before the shot? If so, could this migraine have been caused by worrying about giving yourself the shot and whether or not it would help? I hope the migraines don't continue, because I know what they feel like. After you give yourself the shots for a while, you'll be an old pro. I know that I was nervous at first, too. I inject into my stomach, where there are fewer nerves. That's supposed to be the least painful place. Good luck. Sue On Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 10:08 PM, Bonnie wrote: > > Tuesday will be my second dose as well... Guest guest
Sue, I use to get migraines a several times per month, but that was years ago now... and yes, it is possible that the migraines were because of my nervous nature... I'm normally the first one to say that anything is possible... I guess I'll find out over the next couple of weeks.. My first shot was in my thigh and I'll probably continue there for as long as I can, only because I can't imagine giving myself a shot in the stomach... Perhaps that will change with time as well. Thank you for your suggestion and advise. Bonnie R. > > > > Tuesday will be my second dose as well... Guest guest
Hi , I have taken my 2nd enbrel shot. I take it Monday nights and 8 mtx on Thursdays. I have seen benefits from the MTX, but not the enbrel yet. I think it's going to take 4 or 5 doses to really tell. The headache was less though 2nd time around. I will still be taking my methotrexate on Friday and my Enbrel on Tuesday. Hopefully I will begin seeing some improvement soon. I have already changed my diet and started exercising on a daily basis. It was only three months ago that I was ready to give up from the pain, but now things are beginning to turn around. Guest guest
Hello , I have had great control with Enbrel and Methotrexate. I also take Plaquanil and Prednisone (5 mg maintenance). I have been on my current " med cocktail " for about 4 years now. Occasionally have some break through pain but usually manageable! If me pea brain recalls correctly, I believe it was about 3-4 weeks before I really noticed an improvement with the Enbrel. Good luck. > > I had my first Enbrel shot yesterday and did not have any adverse > reactions to the shot as of yet. I did not have any inflammation at the > injection site. Guest guest
I was taking MX and Enbrel for about 2 years. I experienced some hair loss which drove me crazy. About 6 months ago my rhemy decided to take me off MX so now I'm taking Arava and my hair is growing back. I think the MX Enbrel combo was more effective though.
