Guest guest
I've had Tinnitus for as long as I can remember. It is modulated by my heartbeat, so I can hear when my heart misses a beat and it gets louder when I go to bed. Of course that's explained by the quiet with no TV or other outside influence. There are times that I can put pressure on my nose or head that turns the volume down but never off. I've noticed no change since the RA started in 1990, even in HUGE flares! It certainly gets to me sometimes, but there's little to be done about it that I know of. Guest guest
I've had it for years too but I always thought it was from all the loud rock concerts I attended in my life time. It is annoying though, isn't it? I never thought of it in terms of RA. Looking back to when I've been sick it did seem to be louder then I think... I have worked so hard at trying to ignore all my symtpoms for so long..not having medical coverage will do that to do. You can't fix things you can't see a doctor for so just try to push on and ignore what's going on inside. Nothing you can do about it all anyway. I still have no DX and I'm playing the waiting game now. I'm see a Rheumy on June 24th so maybe she will be able to come up with something more conclusive than my GP was able to. All test have come back normal but for SED and HS C-Reactive Protein both of which were high..other than that...according to them...there's nothing wrong.I must say they don't seem in any big hurry to find anything either. Take care, Sharon in NJ Please if > > anyone can tell me if repetive motion makes ra symptoms worse > > it would be very helpful. Guest guest
Dennis: Are you on plaquenil? I noticed that the tinnitus that I have had for years has gotten louder since I started plaquenil. Guest guest
No Ma'am, I am taking only MTX, Folic Acid, and Lodine for the RA. For me it's confusing. I can gently push down on my chin, nose, top of my head, and slightly lifting my head while lying down. I've heard that it can be caused by TMJ or pressure from some teeth, but I can't prove that link at all. All I know is I'll have to live with it since nobody will answer the phone! Guest guest
One reason there has been no real interest in 'fixing' your problem is that even doctors have no reason for Tinnitus and no treatment for it. The only way I know of, and I've been tempted to build one, is a white-noise generator. It is the exact reverse of the offending sound so it's cancelled out. That would be a large piece of equipment because I can only build with discrete components and not keeping up with newer technology. Maybe a hearing aid place can build something or already have one. Wouldn't that be nice?. Dennis in eastexas [ ] Re: -ringing in ears > I've had it for years too but I always thought it was from all the > loud rock concerts I attended in my life time. Guest guest
I had ringing in my ears when my blood pressure was high. I was not even aware that I HAD high blood pressure until I bought a home monitoring machine for my husband and began tracking it regularily. ~Marie
Guest guest
Just another couple of causes of 'pulse' tinnitus to check out....1. anaemia  can aggravate the 'whooshing ', day and night                                         \                                         \              2 changes in position can aggravate the sound when lying down: the ear hears the 'plumbing' in the nearby carotid artery especially when all else is quiet!! Have had this myself. Retired doc with friend with RA and no computer! Chris Re: [ ] -ringing in ears > > >> I've had Tinnitus for as long as I can remember. Guest guest
Hi This is how mine started. I was having a big flare with symmetrical joint pain in my toes, knees, fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders and last but not least my jaw. After starting prednisone the inflammation in my joints including my jaw went down and my face that seemed swollen seemed to deflate. I know that steroids are sometimes used to treat tinnitus not cause it but I was wondering if the sudden reduction in inflammation is what might have set it off. The ringing is 24/7 in my head more than my ears if that makes sense. My red blood cell count is ok. I was on lots of motrin before I started the prednisone so maybe that set it off. Who knows. It is something that I can deal with. I was just worried that it may be a warning sign of something else going wrong. Thanks, Kathy
Guest guest
I was anemic a few years ago and had a transfusion to fix it after an operation. It didn't change things that I noticed. Still the same shushing sound even when my heart stops beating, I still hear the sound, just subdued. The only time I really can't hear it is at the racetrack or when tuning my car at home. Guest guest
LOL Dennis! I loved that! No one will answer the phone! Mine are extremely loud today! It's been that way since I was 19 and at 36 they are still ringing away! betnden@... wrote: No Ma'am, I am taking only MTX, Folic Acid, and Lodine for the RA. For me it's confusing.
