Guest guest
susan, my doctor says i need a knee replacement. i am 53. i have had spinal surgery, is the knee surgery bad??? has it improved your mobility or just the pain. thanks rita [ ] Re: RA meds vs. surgery Hello Molly, I had a bone graft of the femur and a total knee replacement March 11. I was told to go off my Enbrel, Metho and Dolubid one week before surgery and could restart them 2 weeks after the surgery. I stayed on my prednisone, vicodin, advair and plaquinal. You are right, the pain meds post surgery do compensate. I was in the hosp for 5 days. The first week home was ok, in fact other than the discomfort from the surgery, all my other body parts felt better then they had in years! LOL, so much for percocet!! The following week (went from percocet back to vicodin) I did have some increase in stiffness and joint pain and swelling. Vicodin kept the worse of it at bay. I have been back on my Ebrel, Metho and Dolubid for almost three weeks now and things are almost back to " pre-surgery normal " . Wish you the best of luck! > > I'm having a hysterectomy on Monday. Guest guest
Hi Rita: I was 65 when I had a total knee replacement, I took my MTX, plus my reg. meds. The surgery went very well, and I too, suggest you exercise your knee and thigh all the time while sitting, before, and after your surgery. It really helps so much. I remember coming out of the anesthesa, and started doing those exercises. The pain meds. sure do help, plus I was on a pain drip pump, which worked so good. I was in the hosp. for 5 days, then went to a rehab. facility for my P.T. That also worked fine. They really know their bus., and are so wonderful. It makes a good recovery for you. My new knee is perfect, no pain, no limping, no cane or crutches ever. The best part is my knee is so stable and strong. If my other knee goes, I will have it done in a heartbeat. I was fearful and so worried, I made my self sick. All for nothing!!!! I know you will feel like a new woman with your new knee. I will pray for you, and know all will be well for you. God Bless you, and good luck. Barbara [ ] Re: RA meds vs. surgery Hello Molly, I had a bone graft of the femur and a total knee replacement March 11. Guest guest
SHIRLEY,I HAD LUMBAR SURGERY AND DID GREAT. DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH YOU WILL BE FINE. THAT PAIN WILL BE GONE THE RA PAIN WILL STILL BE THERE BUT THAT RADIATING PAIN WILL BE GONE. TRY TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY WHEN YOU HAVE THE SURGERY.
