Yes Kay, we have had several ladies in church come down with vertigo. It

lasts about 4 days or so...Mom has had it for 4+ months but it does seem to

be slowly going away..I don't think hers is the same as what everyone else

seems to be experiencing.

Yucky stuff...wonder what it is.

,

I've had vertigo off and on for several years. It's very disconcerting, isn't

it? I can be sitting in a parking lot for example, and just turn my head and

the world goes spinning.

The doc told me to take Claritan or Sudafed, something like that to dry up the

fluid in the ear that causes vertigo. I've gotten now where I can actually hear

a crinkly sound in my ear and then I know to take some type of medicine for it.

Also, I went through physical therapy for this and learned several exercises I

can do.

Hope this helps at least a little bit.

I was wondering if anyone suffers from vertigo. My doctor told me, that I have

this and it will take a long time to go away. She also said that it will come

back. It is strange I can clean my house and be fine then move my head to much,

I feel like I am spinning. I don't get physically ill to my stomach so that is a

good thing.

Any suggestions would be a help,

my daughter suffered greatly with benign positional vertigo a few years

ago...and when it was correctly diagnosed, she was treated with the Epley

Maneuver...and it resolved within 48 hours and never came back :)

You might want to inquire about that..

For quite a while at night I had this issue. When I finally got a diagnosis,

the doctor (one I saw at a clinic for a one shot deal) said it was labrynthitis.

It usually only affected me when i laid down, generally with my eyes closed. I

had a couple different strategies for combating it when it happened, but I was

really having trouble with it. I truly can't remember how it got resolved.

Shortly after that, I found out I had endometriosis, and starting having to deal

with that (this was 8 or 9 years ago), so I don't remember much more about the

labrynthitis.

Hi !

I began having vertigo when I was 19 and I'm 36 now. It was very bad at the

beginning to where I would fall a lot. I still get it quite a bit, when ever I

stand up too fast, when I'm on an elevator and it stops moving, if the car stops

too fast, or if I abruptly have to stop quickly when walking. If I turn over

too quickly when sleeping too it kicks in. I used to take antivert for it, and

sometimes will get it prescribed if its so severe my bed or room spins all day

without stopping.

Oh my all day you suffer with this, that is terrible. Today I was at my

daughter in laws helping her clean and I was fine. Then driving coming home I

got it but it wasn't bad and settled right down. It is just odd when it comes

and goes.

Thank you so much for your help. It does feel better knowing there are other

people with this condition. Its funny recently the RA hasn't been that bad and

now this, its frustrating.

Thank you,

Thank You , I appreciate your suggestions. You know I read about that

maneuver but I don't understand why the doctor didn't suggest it. I will talk

to her about it.

Thank you for your help I do appreciate it. You know when something goes wrong

we or at least I always think the worst.

Phyllis, thank you so much. You have had it a couple of years. Well that would

explain why the doctor said two months is nothing. I think I will try the

Claritan and see what that does. I couldn't afford physical therapy. It would

25.00 every time I go so that is out of the question. Thank you for your

suggestions. I start reading about things and really get myself upset. Even

though the doctor said not to worry.

Thank you for your help, I do appreciate it.

I've had benign positional vertigo, twice, 3 years apart. One lasted 4

months, the other 6 months and in between, I have a couple days of very

minor vertigo. Once I got it the first time, they told me I had a high

chance of having it again within 5 years, the second time, they said yup,

you'll get it again, probably within 3 years. They give me prescription

meds, but one of them, Meclizine can be bought over the counter. Look in

the seasickness aisle, it's call " Bonnete " or something close to that. I've

also used Dramamine to treat it to once it gets to a less serious stage.

There are sites with exercises on that are suppose to help, but I've never

tried them because I can't use my computer at that stage. Good luck

Thank you Darcy, I am welcoming everyones imput. The doctor did mention a

prescription drug but didn't give it to me. I only got sick to my stomach once

so she didn't give me anything. I will look at the drug today you mentioned.

Its funny yesterday I was cleaning at my sons, really cleaning floors, dusting,

everything and I was fine. Get home sit and it started but only a little. I

did take the claritin that Phyllis recommended. I can go to the gym and do the

stretching and be fine. I think this vertigo has a mind of its own.

Any way thank you, I do appreciate your suggestions.

Darcy,

Do you think they can tell just from the exam? I thought the would take some

kind of brain test but she said no. That what I have is not central. I am just

curious. I think with having RA we all know that it is hard to get good health

care. I like my doctor a lot and think she is very good. Guess this has me

worried. I have a friend who is very ill and think that is on my mind also.

Thanks.

They usually start off with very simple tests such as you looking at them or

following a finger. Then they may send you for more testing which is stuff

like following a light on a scrolling light board (like you see at airports

" gate 41..... Dallas/Fortworth now boarding " ), sitting abruptly up and

down, pouring hot/cold water in your ears to see how you react. What causes

your vertigo will give different symptoms during your exam, so unless you

have a rare exception, they usually can tell. The only reason they gave me

some of the more advanced testing was that I showed some signs of benign

positional vertigo and some of Meniere's. I'm in the minority in this group,

I have fibro, not RA, but you're right, it is sometimes hard to get good

care with all of our medical problems. If your doctor isn't an ENT, you

might want to ask to be sent to one, just to double check things if it would

make you feel better, or you can wait a month or two and if you still don't

have improvement, ask to see one on those grounds. Good luck with it.

The doctor did have me looking at her and she looked at my eyes. She also had

me sit up and then sit back down and turn my head to the right. Sit up and

repeat the process again turning the opposite direction. She had me answer a

lot of questions also. It was after all this she said it was vertigo. I get

nervous and upset so by now I have forgotten some things at the visit.

thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. I didn't know that so many

people would have a problem with vertigo.

Have a good evening,
