Guest guest
Good Morning Everyone, I have a strange question. For years I have drank at least 10 glasses of soda a day. Regular Pepsi or Coke, no diet. During the summer I started to cut back and drank propel water. I just can't do the plain water. I realized I was not in so much pain, not pain free but not so bad. So I stopped soda completely which was a real challenge for me. I even took it to bed with me to drink during the night. I felt good so I stopped the Ra meds. I was on ultracet and metho. At first I stopped the metho and really didn't see a difference with the pain level. So I thought what am I taking it for, there's no difference. Now I feel really good, not pain free but so much better than I have felt in years. I only on occassion take the ultracet. I still have some stiffness and of course pain but it is all so deal-able. I am wondering could the soda have been the culprit with so many more symptoms. I have changed nothing else. Due to stomach problems my diet is limited. I eat not dairy, no fried foods, no meat, nothing very heavy as mashed potatoes or pasta would be. I do eat lots and lots of fish. We are a fish family and all eat it. I am just wondering and I plan on ask the Rheumy. But to be honest most doctors would raise and eyebrow to all this. I find more information here. I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation. Now my SIL has has arthritis in her hands and drinks diet soda like I drank regular soda. So she is going to try to give up the soda. It is a difficult thing to do almost like giving up cigarettes. MeMom
Guest guest
That is so interesting . I can give you an accurate account of how much soda I drank in a day. It was off the charts. I am anxious to see how my SIL makes out, if she does it. It is a big step for her and I will have to keep on her about it. She doesn't have insurance and her hands is already getting deformed. I just know I feel soooo much better. I hope I never drink anymore soda. Today I am going to go and try to get in a walk. Wouldn't no soda be an easy answer? I have to see if I can find any information on this diet and Ra.. Thank You and hope you have a nice day, linda -------------- Original message -------------- From: <bizzyisme@...> Hi , Soda most definitely makes me hurt! Guest guest
I'll tell what I know about diets of cola and such. The president of our local university was well known and I had worked for his dad, so I knew him as well. He brought a pack of Coke to the office every day, and wouldn't drink water or anything else. He died from Sclerosis of the liver even though he never touched any type of liquor. The doctors said he didn't drink enough water to clear out the poisons and toxins. I think I'll stay with water. Guest guest
Isn't it interesting that this happens with the soda. Well I am glad I am off of it and if it means I will continue to do better than so be it. I do like soda but not at the cost of making me worse. Guest guest
I was diagnosed with RA in may. By the end of the summer my doctor and the nurses (who all have some form of RA) suggested that I make serious changes in my diet. 1. No refined sugars 2. Limit the starches 3. Limit alcohol 4. Limit red meat to once a week. I tried it for about 3 months and it made a huge difference!!!! ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi ! I was diagnosed with FMS 7 years ago. The doctors (my rheumatologist and family doctor and cardiologist) all advised against drinking soda and to limit caffeine and sugar. I believe it can definitely make someone hurt! If Coca Cola can clean a car battery off, I'd hate to think of what it does to my insides! On one of the news investigations shows awhile back, 20/20 or dateline, they were explaining that one ingredient in soda is also used for some type of fluid in a car. --- <bizzyisme@...> wrote: > Hi , > > Soda most definitely makes me hurt! Guest guest
You can't get upset by what is in packaged foods unless you go totally natural, and even totally natural is hard to do anymore. The best thing to do, if you feel a particular product may be suspect is to take it out of your diet. However, you better make sure those same ingredients are not in other foods, particularly chemicals and such that could be aggrivating your condition. Gluten, a supposed RA aggrivator, is everywhere! Each person is different. I know personally, cherries, omitting certain foods (although oregano will cause me to flare), all these miracle cures that would happen if I just ate or did not eat them does not work for me. Heck I can't get any biologics to work for me either. Shandi stephanie <stephieann2@...> wrote: Hi ! I was diagnosed with FMS 7 years ago. Guest guest
, I have diabetes, but I still drink soda. Thing is, I drink diet soda. Why don't you try to change to diet soda? I tried several kinds before I found some that I like. I drank cream soda for a while, but presently I drink diet root beer. Now, I can also stand diet Coke and Pepsi, but I prefer the root beer. Guest guest
Sue, I have and do drink diet soda. For the longest time, I drank the carbonated flavored waters. It's just that when I rink soda, I don't eat; I am on a diet of soda and snacks (which is totally unhealthy). One of these days, I will find something that works. Thanks. > > > Sharon, > > I never smoked. My big culprit is my husband. I also drink coffee, and as I said, hot tea, and water at least once a day, LOL. And I also eat all of my ice, which has to count as water. Guest guest
I gave up soda about a year ago... I never thought that was possible, being that like many on this list, I drank about 8 cans of pepsi a day... Due to the steroid's, I was steadily gaining weight, and a co-worker suggested I try no soda for a month... I grunted and said that wasn't possible, and she argued that I wasn't that upset about the weight gain then... lol Needless to say I tried it out... I didn't loose weight, but I noticed a really big difference in my pain lessening... Now I drink nothing but water and diet green tea... If I slip and have a beloved soda, I soon get reminded by my joints that it wasn't a good idea... I bet soda stocks are falling quickly just from our list alone...lol
Guest guest
Bonnie, I also drank soda but more a day than you did. I have switched to tea on occasion I will have a soda but have found I have lost my taste for it. It just isn't as good as it use to be. My pain level is so low since stopping the soda that I have been able to join a gym and aquatic classes. I'm not saying I have no pain but to be able to go to a gym is wonderful. I love the water exercises. Rheumy told me to keep doing whatever I am doing. At this time the swelling is my hands is very low. Pain is much worse when I slip and drink soda. Guest guest
Hi all, New here so please correct me if I do not reply in the correct format. I noticed before starting meds that if I ate or drank anything high in 'sugar' (in any of its many forms) that the swelling and pain would significantly increase. Anyone else notice this? I am checking into changing my diet to " raw living foods " . Since hubby has colon cancer this will help both of us. And make my life easier when preparing meals if we eat the same things. Namaste' Rhonda Bonnie, I also drank soda but more a day than you did. I have switched to tea on occasion I will have a soda but have found I have lost my taste for it.
