figs and CVD?

Hello,

A client brought in a book written by an RD on preventing 2nd heart attacks, and

she specifically sites the benefits of figs. And I don't understand. According

to ORAC value, whfoods, etc. figs are middle of the pack. They have fiber,

calcium, antioxidants, but nothing that singles them out as the one wonderfood.

Pub med has very little, one study from 2002.

Is anyone aware of anything else that I might be missing?

Thanks!

Figs are one of the foods with the widest range of different carotenoids.

Carotenoid rich food has been related to a reduced risk of death from

cardiovascular disease.

I found this right now when I was reviewing about mediterranean diet patterns.
