Hey,

I have had IBS for a long time - years before I had RA

and I don't believe it has anything to do with RA unless of course a RA med

causes it. That I don't know. Maybe - our QUEEN of knowledge can answer

that! Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Can anyone tell me the correlation here between IBS and RA? Does

eveyone with RA have this ? My last RA visit the doctor viewed my xrays

and said I have severe IBS. This is something of course I have lived

with for long time and never put the 2 together. Is there medication

for IBS as well ?

I have had IBS a several years before I learned I had fibromyalgia. It

came from my mom who has an irritable GI system, too. There are 3 kinds

of IBS: constipation, diarrhea or both. Also there are antispasmotics

that help IBS, such as Levsin which I take. Used to be Zelnorm for the

IBS-C but it was taken off the market.

well...Thanks again...

I don't know of any direct link between RA and IBS; however, a significant

percentage of people with RA have fibromyalgia, and IBS is associated with

fibromyalgia.

I don't think that there is a relationship. In some ways it is genetic but

mostly neurological (autonomic).

There are medications given for IBS...for those with constipation part of IBS

some gastroenterologists recommend more fiber and senokot. I had one prescribed

but haven't had it filled in quite some time. It's a good thing to ask the

gastroenterologist about.

My gastro recommended Benefiber which is easy to use. But now am

using Miralax which helps my constipation. My gastro also gave me

Levsin for my bad GI tract cramping. It's an antispasm med for

internal muscles like the GI ones. I don't eat onions or anything

greasy which irrates my GI tract.

My doctor recommended Miralax and it is helping but I don't think anything

will ever heal this unpredictable disorder.
