There's no rule or schedule for " deformities " because RA attacks muscles and

joints, whichever it feels like. I've suffered aggressive RA for almost 20

years and still don't have much visible results from it. X-rays don't show

anything with my bones except for my knees and the discs in my spine that

are bulging slowly. It doesn't help to have 'panic attacks' because that

will make you more vulnerable emotionally, and you don't want that. It will

just hurry the disorder and you'll be defeated since the RA also reads your

frame of mind, in my opinion, and can make you worse. Take a deep breath,

lift your chin and hold your head high. It may not do much for the progress

of RA, but it'll help your frame of mind. It works for me sometimes.

I would talk to your rheumy about getting on some sort of DMARD (I

think that's the name of it). It's disease modifing medication. I

have had RA for 7 years and I don't have any difformities. (knocking

on wood). I have rheumatoid nodules, but they aren't on my fingers.

Talk to your rheumy.

Thank you very much for your input/and yes anxiety is an area I need to work on.

I guess it is all happening so fast I am overwhelmed, and so far nothing has

really relieved the pain. But I will take both advices, I will ask my RA doc

about dmards and I will hold my head up high. Thank you again...kelly

I hope you are seeing a rheumatologist. I don't think you are on the right

medications for RA.

,

A lot of what we deal with is a case of mind over matter. As in: If

you don't mind, it doesn't matter. I'm not being flippant, I think

their are more than a few of us who can relate to that statement.

Once you and your RA doc get you on the right cocktail of medications

for you, you will be doing better. In the long run it is much more

important for your fingers to work properly, than for them to 'look'

normal. My fingers and toes all are working okay right now, but they

don't look quite right. So I figure I'm doing okay. I hope that

makes sense to you.

Keep a sense of humor and your chin up!
