Yesterday I got deathly ill. Symptoms onset about 2 1/2 of eating raw

pistachios. I am not sure if it was because they were rancid or I

discovered I am allergic to them.

I had purchased bulk, raw pistachios. I had them at work, not stored in a

refrigerator or anything. I had them for about 7 days. I would put them

in yogurt or snack on them in the afternoon. When I received them they

tasted different from the other pistachios I had purchased in bulk. These

were not raw.

The symptoms I experienced was abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and

diaphoresis. These symptoms can be present if you also eating rancid

nuts. The nuts tasted vaguely different, but did not seem to smell badly.

I have not experienced allergic symptoms in the past.

I will appreciate anyone's feedback and commentary...thanks, Carol

*Pistachio nut allergy is common in some sensitive individuals. The

allergic manifestations are due to chemical compound anacardic acid(urushiol)

that is present in these nuts.*

* The reaction symptoms may range from simple skin itching (hives) to

severe form anaphylactic manifestations including breathing difficulty,

pain abdomen, vomiting, and diarrhea.*

*Cross-reactions also occurs with some other nuts and fruits of anacardiaceae

**family... etc. Persons with known allergic reactions to these nuts are

therefore needed to observe caution while eating cashews and mango.
