Guest guest
Hi, How about telling him to tell his patients no liquid sugars (ie soda or juice) until they meet with you? connie  May the Lord bless and keep you safe and provide you with a way to reach your dreams. ________________________________ To: rd-usa Sent: Friday, November 4, 2011 4:15 PM Subject: one-liners for the docs...  Hi, I had a physician approach me about doing a CME with the docs in our medical group re: nutrition. He is very pro-nutrition and collegial with the dietitians. I'm really excited about this. I wanted to pick your brains... One thing I was thinking of doing was doing a " SAY this, not that " type of thing for the one-liners. Many of the docs say " nothing white " or " cut the carbs " to the diabetic patients which is disheartening, not informative, and typically pushes the patients away from making the appt with the RD. If their doc said that, what on earth is the RD (whose job it is to be the food police!) going to say?! Then they soothe themselves with a Cinnabon. Great. Can you guys give me some ideas of one-liners that are HELPFUL? I don't love blanket statements, but these docs have zero time, so we have to work with what we've got. His favorite is Pollan's: Eat food, mostly plants, not too much. Anything else?? THANK YOU! Arnstein, MS, RD, CSSD
Guest guest
How about... " above all else, do no harm " Meaning prescribing drugs is very routine, but there are side effects. Teach lifestyle changes to manage disease in-addition to meds if necessary to treat/correct/control health. Meds don't fix unhealthy lifestyle choices.
