Learn More >> Bipartisan Health Care Reform Plan Is Released Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.) and Rep. (Wis.) have released a plan to reform Medicare that they say will help reduce rising costs and improve health care for all participants. The plan's principles include choice, affordability, protecting the guarantee and protecting the safety net. One feature of the plan would be to offer participants a choice between Medicare and private plans starting in 2022. According to this plan, anyone who is 55 or older at the time of the bill's passage would not see changes to his or her current plan. Learn More >> 'Doc Fix' Extended The House and Senate agreed to extend the Sustainable Growth Rate for Medicare reimbursements, known as the " Doc Fix, " for two months. The agreement postponed a 27.4 percent reduction in physician and dietitian reimbursement until March 1. Academy Submits Hospital Privileging Proposed Regulation Comments to CMS The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding proposed changes to Hospital Conditions of Participation. The Academy supports the proposed regulatory changes, which should facilitate registered dietitians' ability to practice at the height of their state scope of practice. In addition, the Academy urged CMS to provide additional guidance regarding privileging and the ordering of therapeutic diets. FDA Seeks Food Advisory Committee Nominations The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition is seeking the nomination of experts in epidemiology, pediatric development and analytical chemistry or food science to serve on the FDA's Food Advisory Committee.
