Guest guest
I used to have some discoloration around my ring finger, I just chucked it up to the gold being absorbed into my skin. After all, gold is used for arthritic patients. > > Strange question i know but i have been wearing my wedding ring for 12 > years and the other two rings for 9 years with no problems. Guest guest
Hi All, Before getting RA and having to end my wonderful career I was a goldsmith/jewelry designer. Your problem happens to people more often than you can imagine, and I mean healthy people not taking meds. The shortest answer is that it is almost ALWAYS from either hand lotions or cosmetics, or, acidic foods that you have either worked with your hands or even from eating them. Tomatoes (including tomato sauces), citrus fruits, vinegars all can affect this from the inside but usually the outside. Hairspray, cologne, lotions of any type are also culprits. When jewelers polish gold the muslin buffs turn black because of the reaction of the polishing compound and the cloth. Wash your hands well but most importantly Rinse them well. Underneath the rings, next to the skin, can be irritated so easily and blackened skin is the result. I would suggest you take your rings in to a jeweler and have them thoroughly cleaned (I always did that service for free). Hope that helps. I'm on all kinds of horrid meds and that never happens because of them. Karin
Guest guest
Early in my RA, when my fingers were swollen and looked like sausages, my ring finger on my left hand, where I wore my gold rings, was perfectly normal.
