Guest guest
Hi Caroline! Welcome to the group!! You have come to a very caring, supportive environment filled with wonderful individuals. keeps us updated on latest medical research and posts great medical information that is very informative and helpful. I am 36 and have been being treated for 2 years. I've had CFS since the age of 19, and FMS since the age of 30. It is completely normal to feel malaise and extreme fatigue with RA. One of the most important things we learn with this illness is to pace ourselves and not overdo things. To rest when we have to rest. We are not being lazy simply fighting an illness. Meloxicam is an NSAID. I started it on March 3rd and only take 7.5mgs. I used to take 50mgs 2 times a day of diclofenac. It doesn't give me any side effects. It's just like taking an aspirin for me. Are you on the maximum dose of 15mgs? I'm not sure if its even helping me at the moment, but I have a liver disease or diagnosis of hepatitis for unknown reason, so my doctor didn't want me on the diclofenac. I am treated with Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine but Methotrexate or Enbrel is my next step of treatment. There are many here that take methotrexate that will be able to give you very helpful advice. It is complicated at times, to find the right drug combination that works for one. The DMARD is very important to take though as it helps prevent against joint damage and may slow the progression of the disease. sistergirlfriend001 <burchall@...> wrote: I am a 34 year old mother of 2. I was diagnosed with a really high rheumatoid factor in early 2005 but then got pregnant and the symptoms and factor went away completely. I was told to come back when my baby was 3 months old and I did and at that time I was still fine. No RA. Then when I weaned my son from night nursing this past December I got my period back and the RA came on with a vengeance. ( I think there is a hormonal link) First it was my jaws. I thought maybe I was grinding my teeth at night. Then my 3 middle toes (thought it was my ski boots) and fingers. I found a new Rheumatologist and he prescribed MELOXICAM and told me to think about METHOTREXATE as a second line drug. I filled the prescription but put it off as I wasn't ready yet to fully wean my son from breastfeeding. Finally yesterday I couldn't take the pain for another second and took the MELOXICAM with my breakfast. The prescription said to take with supper but I couldn't wait. So that's it for the breastfeeding. It would be wrong to let any of the meds get thru to my son. Yesterday I took 1 pill (15 MG) of MELOXICAM and I swear I was high. I couldn't move, I couldn't keep my eyes open. Does anyone else feel like that? Will that go away? Also I was dripping wet in bed last night. That never happens to me but I was sweating like crazy. Is this a really hard drug I am on? This morning when I woke up the pain isn't so bad so the drug must still be working. I think I will wait until supper today as I have errands to run with my kids this afternoon and don't want to be driving around all messed up. My other question is that does anyone else feel lazy from RA? People are always telling me to fight my laziness. I find it so hard to keep my house organized and keep on top of the mess from the kids. But when I was in so much pain the last thing I wanted to do was clean and now with this Meloxicam I feel too mellow to clean. It feels incredible to not be in pain after so long. Next I need to take the METHOTREXATE 4 X 2.5MG once a week. I'm scared because I hear it is a really harsh drug. They will be monitoring my liver while I'm on it. Anyone have good things to tell me about Methotrexate? Or bad? I feel so isolated with RA. No one understands me and I don't want to complain all the time. It's so nice to find this group for support. Caroline --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Caroline, I am currently taking 4 mtx a week with absolutely no problem whatsoever. Some people have problems and some have none, hopefully you'll be in the none group, here's hoping. Guest guest
Hi caroline, I don't post much, but I was on Sulfasalazine, hydroxychloroquine and celebrex for my RA. I have had it now for 6 years. I just went off of everything in prep for trying to get pregnant. I am a high risk for loosing pregnancy but it not b/c of RA. It's just a precaution. I am/was alright but my rheumy was seriously condsidering Mexthotrexate(Sp?) Heck I was scared after reading all the things about RA and the drugs to treat it. I am 31 and still have a great many years to go with kids hopefully in the picture. We will see. Goodluck! I would try and half my dose 2x a day if it makes you seriuosly loopy. but ask DR 1st. Guest guest
I just joined this group and already I have a very favorable impression. I was diagnosed with lupus arthritis in October 2007 (probably had it long before); and I have had fibromyalgia since 1984. I am retired and 70 yrs. old. I am quite active as I fight my illness but lately have to gear down as the flares come on quickly when I have overdone it. Guest guest
I don't know about MELOXICAM, but if it's an NSAID that should not wipe you out from my experience with NSAIDs. What makes one tired/lazy is the RA. You spend a LOT of energy fighting the pain!! MTX has benefits that often outweigh the rare side effects/risks. I take injectable (equivalent to 8 pills) because it's easier on my stomach (some of my other meds work the same on my stomach.) I have a little hair loss going on, but thats it. Welcome to the group, we all have times of difficulty where we need to vent. > > I am a 34 year old mother of 2. > > I was diagnosed with a really high rheumatoid factor in early 2005 but > then got pregnant and the symptoms and factor went away completely. Guest guest
Hi Caroline! This is only the 2nd time I've posted but wanted to share my feelings about Methotrexate. I take 6 pills per day once a week and Folic acid to prevent side effects from the Methotrexate. I've been on it for 6 months now and I'm not sure it is working as I'm still having lots of stiffness, pain and fatigue. I have RA and Fibromyalgia, migraines, degenerative disk disease in both cervical and lumbar regions of the spine, asthma (which began just after being diagnosed with RA.) I get " lazy " some days so much that I never get out of bed. I'm totally exhausted and sleep the entire day!!! Fortunately, my husband understands as he's also disabled. He just lets me sleep and says that I must need it. So don't feel bad about feeling " lazy " or tired. I truly think it is our body's way of helping us fight this disease and allow the meds to work. Best wishes to you.
