My new favorite saying.............'all things shall pass'. I've new to methotrexate, I've been on it for about 5 weeks now. I HATE it, so far there has been no improvement body wise except for extreme fatigue, and depression. I don't want to take my dose next week and see if things improve for me mentally. Questions: Is it okay to start and stop this drug?? If MTX helps to prevent further joint damage, shouldn't an x-ray be done first to see if I even have joint damage?? Can anyone tell me that they stuck it out with the MTX even after a poor start on it and that they benefited from it? The rheumy wants me on it for three months to give it a good chance. Thanx everyone...............amelia --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Amelia! This is a very wonderful, supportive, caring place with amazing, wonderful individuals full of advice, care and concern. I do not yet take Methotrexate. Yet I do take Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine which are also DMARD's. I've had to stop my sulfasalazine for months at a time due to having bronchitis for three months..then a couple of months later for an upper respiratory infection, and then a few weeks ago for another infection. I can tell you, I felt a HUGE increase in pain. Areas that had not yet begun to bother me, HURT badly. I had flares and new symptoms. Even if I miss my dose on a day, because I take so many medications for other health issues, I can notice an increase in pain. I'm not familiar with why scans were not taken. I'm seronegative, yet my knees were constantly swollen and inflamed and I had fluid on them constantly. They were not working properly and I could barely walk. Therefore, they did a scan which showed bilateral joint effusions. I'm not sure when or why they order scans mike nelson <winchester19572004@...> wrote: i take 10 lil pills a week. and had to go off of it for a while and with in the 2nd week i really notice the change in my pain level.
