Guest guest
<<<My Dr has just put me Naproxen this after a try with Flexeril (sp). I was just wondering if anyone has used it and how well it worked. Thanks.>>> Hi, Liz (and everyone), I've been using the generic naproxen sodium for nearly two years, after trying Vioxx (started working then quit on me) and being allergic to sulfa drugs and relatives. It's funny, but years ago when I tried it for menstrual cramps, it did nothing for me. But now, if I ache badly (or have a severe headache), I take two in the morning, and if necessary another two later in the day - and it really takes the edge off the pain. Hope this helps. I'm confused as to the connection between a muscle relaxes and naproxen. Guest guest
Hi Liz -- I have used prescription-strength Naproxen in the past and it worked well to diminish the inflammation. It was hard on the stomach, though. Now I use Aleve, which is non-prescription strength naproxen sodium. I usually take one in the morning and another at night, and it keeps the pain pretty much at bay. During a flare, I take one every 8 hours. I also take glucosamine chondroitin for my joints. -- Jan O', Alaska. Terry & Liz wrote:

The naproxen to try to bring down inflammation and the flexeril to relax the muscles. I don't know about others on here, but sometimes I think I have more pain in my muscles, tendons, nerves, soft tissue, etc. than in the actual joint. When this pain is really bad, a flexeril helps me sleep. But it also leaves me groggy the next a.m.
Guest guest
I'm confused as to the connection between a muscle relaxes and naproxen. Dianne, thanks for your reply. I too am confused now. I went in for a check up 3 weeks ago on my p, and mentioned that my back has been bothering me for about a month. He said it was muscle related and gave me the Flexeril. I called him a couple of days ago because I've been on the Flexeril for 3 weeks with no improvement and I wondered if this drug took a while to work. His nurse called me back and said he called me in a new script. Why wouls it change from a musclw relaxer to this I'm now wondering? I'm taking 1000 mgs a day of the Naproxen and 10 mgs a week of the MXT. Thanks for any insight you might provide. Liz
Guest guest
Hi Jan, thanks for answering. I'm glad to hear that the Naproxen worked for you (except for the stomach). If the Naproxen is for inflammation, would it be prescribed for muscle pain? This is what started the whole thing was back pain that my derm thought was muscle related, so he put me on Flexeril, but it didn't work, so he just switched me to Naproxen 1000 mgs/day. I'm also on 10 mgs a week MXT. I'm still trying to figure out the meds and what they are for! Thanks1 Liz
Guest guest
Hi Liz -- I take naproxen for pain mangement and Benadryl (an antihistimine) as a mild muscle relaxer for muscle pain. I also sometimes rub in a cream like Ben-Gay or Tiger Balm. -- Jan O', Alaska Terry & Liz wrote: > Hi Jan, thanks for answering. Guest guest
Hi All, I'm going into surgery Friday to have two bone spurs removed in my cervical spine. Fusion will also be involved. The surgeon wanted me to stop my 1500 mg of Naproxen a day for six months. I'm also on Plaquenil, folic acid, and MTX. Between my RA Doc and the surgeon they have agreed to let me stay on 500 mgs a day. What happens if that isn't enough? They don't seem to have an answer. It seems any nsaid will inhibit the fusion process. Any help will be appreciated. Jere
Guest guest
Hi Jere! I wish you luck on your surgery and a speedy recovery. I know sometimes, they have you stop NSAIDS as they can help thin the blood like aspirin does. Maybe if that's not enough medication they could give you a short term Prednisone? I only take Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine along with Mobic. I have to stop my Sulfasalazine quite a bit sometimes for months at a time when I get an infection. I have to just survive on the Plaquenil. Sometimes, I have a major increase in pain, and other times, the Plaquenil seems to do it. I hope you are feeling well soon Jere McFarland <jrmcf2@...> wrote: Hi All, I'm going into surgery Friday to have two bone spurs removed in my cervical spine. Fusion will also be involved.
