Guest guest
Hi DD, I'm sorry no one replied to your post last week. It is so hard to keep up. I have spent the last 4 months planning my local Arthritis Walk (we raised over $26,000!) My name is Steph & I was dx'd with JRA with adult persistence in 1999 when I was 22. I'm 30 now. It took 13 doctors 2.5 months to dx me. I am stable on Remicade, Iboprofen, Methotrexate & Folic Acid. Unfortunely, inflammatory diseases sometimes come in pairs. Some doctors may consider your RA a secondary illness. It doesn't change the way it is treated. You are fortunate in that some of the newer biologics (read: shots & IVs) can help Crohn's too. In fact, my IV, Remicade, was originally used for Crohn's but it improved RA symptoms in those with both diseases so they makers did a study and now Remicade treats 3 or 4 types of arthritis. Are you taking Folic Acid? You should take it on the days when you aren't taking MTX. It helps with the side effects. I take my MTX on Saturday so I can recover from the fatigue by the time I go back to work on Monday. I had chest problems & rapid heart beat with my first few MTX doses but my rheumy increased my Folic Acid. Good luck. Steph in Charlottesville, VA Hello, I have recently joined this list after being diagnosed with RA at 64. I've also had Crohn's for a very long time. I was put on 25 mg of Prednisone 2.5 weeks ago, changed to 20 mg on Wednesday. I did my first dose of Methotrexate on Monday. 6 pills. Monday, I had a headache, Tuesday, extreme fatigue, headache and felt like my head was stuffed with straw. I was surprised when I could actually think or remember anything. Wednesday, more of the same. I teach a line dancing class Wednesday evening. We start out slow and easy and work our way up to more difficult. Once the endorphins kicked in, I felt great. But after a couple of hours, my chest felt like something was swollen in it. Pressure around the heart and lungs. That lasted most of the day on Thursday as well. Thursday night I danced a little again and felt great afterwards. Like a fog had finally lifted. This morning, I awakened after six hours of sleep with a rapid heart beat. The rapid heart beat started a little even before I started the MTX. Does anyone else have side-effects in their chest? I've already gotten a lot of information from this list. I wish I had started the MTX Sunday evening, but I didn't. dd ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The 2008 Charlottesville Arthritis Walk is Sat. Guest guest
Your doctor should give you a perscription for folic acid. They are 1 mg each. Depending on your doctors orders, you may take only one or you might need even more. Currently, I'm on 7 mg. folic acid. I also take MTX, Enbrel, Plaquenil, & prednisone > > > > In a message dated 5/12/2008 7:31:49 P.M. Central Daylight Time, > stephdenicola@... writes: > > Are you taking Folic Acid?
