Fibromyalgia Pain Linked With Central Nervous System Disorder

ScienceDaily (Jun. 3, 2008) — Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition

that causes widespread pain and tenderness throughout the body. A

University of Michigan study, published in The Journal of Pain, shows

that fibromyalgia is associated with central nervous system

abnormalities evidenced by patients’ elevated sensitivity to auditory

and pressure sensations.

I have seen a number of people with RA also have Fibro. Whay is that? Do they go

hand in hand? If you have Ra why then do you get pressure points and fatigue and

tingling?

Maybe someone can help me with the answers.

& nbsp;

Thank you NY

Thanks for sharing this Sue.

My rheum told me fibro has a nerve component so that's why he put me on

Neurontin. Don't have RLS or any other nerve disorder. I am sensitive

to noises also.

That's a great article. & nbsp; That is & nbsp; pretty much what my doctors from U

of M have been telling me for awhile. & nbsp; & nbsp; Many have stopped treating FMS

since its more central nervous system than rheumatological. & nbsp; They have said

since there is no cure and so many are getting it, that family doctors can

handle it. & nbsp; I've also read that there may be neurologists that can treat as

well

,

A minority of RA patients have fibromyalgia also. Depending on the source, the

estimate given is between 10 to 30%.

Patients without fibromyalgia often have fatigue. They can also have tingling

due to peripheral neuropathy.
