Guest guest
I have a patient with an egg, wheat, milk, peanut and shellfish allergy. She gained about 100# in a very short time, then developed severe GERD, vomiting, Barrets Esophagus and other issues a few years ago and eventually was diagnosed with the above food allergies. She is morbidly obese and seeking lap-band surgery for weight loss. She provided me with a week's worth of food records that shows really quite healthy eating and an estimated 1400 calories per day, reports this week as norm for the past month. She has not lost any weight. While I realize people may underestimate portions and not disclose all foods I am more interested in the role of allergies in weight. She does eat some of the foods she is allergic to as they were " low allergy " foods and she does not have symptoms. I really do not know much about food allergies. Any experts know of the relationship between food allergies and weight? Would love some articles, ideas, tips etc for helping this patient. I am not sure she will do well with lap-band if the allergy role is big in her current weight.....Thanks in advance.
