Guest guest
My daughter had acid reflux as an infant (only slept through the night a handful of times until she was two!) and subsequently, was a poor eater. We tried all the usual meds(prevacid, pepcid, etc) to no avail. When her growth began to be affected, we were sent to a pediatric GI doc who conducted an endoscopy and luckily, found no damage from the frequent vomiting. We were then referred to to a feeding clinic at our local Children's Hospital which consisted of a the pediatric GI doc, a nurse, a dietitian, a speech therapist and a psychologist. My daughter was seen twice a week by the speech therapist for feeding sessions which consisted of her taking " bites " of foods then being rewarded with a toy, TV, etc. We were seen monthly by the team during which my daughter was weighed & her height measured, a brief physical was done, she was plotted on a growth chart to measure progress, and each team member came in to the room to speak with us about any relevant issues. A plan was then devised as to how to proceed until the next meeting.  I would keep a food record the few days prior to these meetings, review it with the RD, and she would calculate calorie & nutrient intake (if I hadn't done so already). She would then make suggestions as to how to increase caloric & nutrient intake with food & supplements taking into account texture issues & child food preferences.  I hope this helps!  Ruth Craig, MS RD  p.s. my daughter is now six, is in the 30th %ile for weight, the 75%ile for height and is a healthy/hearty eater!  To: " 'rd-usa ' " <rd-usa > Sent: Thursday, February 9, 2012 10:21 AM Subject: RE: Pediatric patient  They are currently seeing a peds GI doctor as well as a speech therapist.
