Guest guest
Hi, thanks for the reply. Since my groggy return from the ER I have figured out the mystery. The day before my allergic reaction I had started taking Niacin on my cardiologist's recommendation. I took it at the same time as I took my Claritin for my seasonal allergies, no reaction to the Niacin that day. Yesterday I took the Niacin again, but without Claritin, instant hives, and hospitalization. When I was initially trying to see what was new on the day of the hives, I thought the Niacin had been without a reaction the day before, but later I remembered that I had taken it with an antihistamine, the Claritin. So I think that it was the Niacin, which I knew could cause flushing but didn't know it would cause the full blown allergic response I had. Do you think I am right that it was the Niacin? thanks NOTICE: This confidential message/attachment contains information intended for a specific individual(s) and purpose. I do know that the most obivious offending food item may not be the one. I am sure there are several on our list serve that can help you better then me. I do stronly suggest if you still have the box or if you can find a box of these crackers, to check out all the ingredients. This might mean finding a printer and enlarging the lable so you can really read it. If it is tumeric you will really have to read lables as it may be used as a " natural food color " in anything yellow or orange. Think bright yellow rice mixes. I have no problems with other spices that  I have had reactions to. I do have seasonal allergies, (hay fever, ragweed, pollen, pine trees, molds) and severe allergies to latex and iron dextran infusions. I don't have alot of experience with food allergies, can I be tested for an allergy to tumeric to see if that is the actual trigger that send me to the hospital to today? Any suggestions? I was now told to carry an epipen with me at all times. thanks in advance Sue > NOTICE: This confidential message/attachment contains information intended for a specific individual(s) and purpose. Guest guest
Could be. First what color was the pill or capsule. If it was a bright orange or yellow, even dark red you may still want to know the ingredients. Your pharmist should be able to help or even the internet. I do know that people frequently have problems with the " other " ingredients. I know I am allergic to the preservative used in the PPDs. For a while they though it was the horse serum since I have eaten horse meat in the past. I would dig a little deeper since you had such a bad reaction.
