The course has been designed and run with technical inputs from and guidance by a number of leading hospital administrators. Participants from within India and overseas are invited to join the course, which will be conducted at the CHAI campus in Secunderabad. The Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI) was established in 1943 and its headquarters is at Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the largest non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the health care sector in India. CHAI is a network of over 3200 health care institutions that include big, medium and small hospitals, health centres and diocesan social service societies. The members of the association located in various parts of the country – urban, semi-urban, rural and tribal settlements – are predominantly engaged in providing curative care and extending health care facilities to the poor and the marginalized. It is well known for its hospital and community-based healthcare services as well as for its in-service management and leadership development programmes. For more details, please visit the website: www.loyolaacademy.com Course Objectives Providing a comprehensive understanding of the health care system and the role of a hospital as a key sub-system of this vitally important sector Imparting adequate knowledge of the interdisciplinary nature of hospital administration and instilling insights into its various functional aspects Helping students develop management skills to deal with various professional groups, skilled and unskilled staff, patients and their families, and members of the community Giving training in efficient planning and management practices and thus improving the standards of hospital administration Providing a holistic approach to hospital management Inculcating in students a keen desire and developing competencies for improvement and innovation in hospital services Eligibility The course is open to graduates of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social sciences, and life sciences as well as to administrative staff of hospitals having a graduate degree. Age Limit Candidates seeking admission to this course should be below 40 years. Admission to the Course Application form and prospectus can be had from CHAI Office on payment of Rs. 250 /- in cash or by crossed bank demand draft drawn in favour of CHAI, Secunderabad. The filled-in application forms with all the necessary enclosures and a registration fee of Rs. 250/- (nonrefundable) by crossed bank demand draft drawn in favour of CHAI, Secunderabad, should be sent to CHAI office by May 30, 2007. Admission Criteria Admission to the course is based on: Academic background and relevant experience A write-up on the individual’s objectives in pursuing the course Group discussion and personal interview Academic Facilities Classrooms with a seating capacity of 40, equipped with public address system Computer with internet facility Executive conference hall for management development programmes (MDPs) Auditorium with a seating capacity of 150 persons Facilities for sports/games Students’ lounge with entertainment facilities Library having about 5000 books and over 150 journals Residential Facilities Male participants are provided accommodation in the hostel situated on CHAI campus. For women participants, it will be arranged at nearby convent hostels. Course Structure Duration of the course: 11 months The course will run into three terms, each having duration of 11 weeks followed by a week of Exams. Each class will be of 70 minutes’ duration. During the Term I, the students will have practical training in hospitals two days a week of 3 credits value.
