Guest guest
Ok so I have an outpatient coming in next week with her son. He is 15 months and is suffering from Severe GERD and constipation. He is barely eating anything and his Doctor in ABQ said his nutrient values are starting to be decreased by his lab work. What suggestions do you all have for me to give to this mom? I'm not experienced with a lot of Peds, espesially ones with severe GERD like this. Thank you in advance
Guest guest
I know the GERD seems the most up front problem but I would try and fix the constipation first. He may be having incresed reflux due to lack of motility of the GI track. If you can get everything moving along the GERD may decrease. Also adequate water intake will reduce constipation and some of the GERD symptoms. Look at the childs fluid intake, water verses juices etc. Your biggest problem will be to get the child back to eating normally after his problems reslove. Guest guest
Rule out the obvious, including celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity, and consider an elimination diet, possibly a small LEAP panel. >________________________________ > >To: rd-usa >Sent: Tuesday, February 7, 2012 2:35 PM >Subject: pediactric patient > >Ok so I have an outpatient coming in next week with her son. Guest guest
I would also possibly recommend a feeding evaluation by a certified therapist for possible short term feeding therapy. That is of course after you have all the other suggestions that were made completed.
