My Grandma (Granny is what we all called her) said that too but it was Gin not

Vodka. I tried it a few years back, didn't do a thing for me. But then I don't

like Gin. Perhaps I should have tried Vodka, I like it. ~grin~

Group;

I love to have a glass of wine Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and

New years. My rheumy said I couldnt even have a glass of wine. Boo

hoo. I never got into drinking because there were so many

alcoholics in my mom and dads family. I have several brothers and

sisters who are alcholics. So I decided long time ago I would have a

glass on very special holidays. Sometimes more than one haaaaaa. Now

none at all haaaaaaa. Thank God I never become an alcholic. I think

the gene is in my family.

gentle hugs

I am sure my one glass of wine with dinner is going to come to an end

very, very soon (next week!). I am starting Enbrel on the 3rd (my

second appointment). My rhuemy does not want me on Methotrexate. I

am 30 and he says there a lot of other options we can try before

Methotrexate. He feels the longer RA patients are on the drug, the

more side effects and harm the drug could cause to their bodies. I

am excited to start Enbrel! I am afraid of needles but less pain

beats a needle one day a week, right?!? I don't know yet if I will be

on any additional drugs or not. I have begun an exercise program

that seems to help me and trying to eat more naturally anti-

inflammatory foods. If I can take Enbrel and control the rest with

natural options, I would like to try.

My mom was diagnosed with RA at 16. She has severe deformity and is

also on Methotrexate. She has encouraged me to try different drugs

and use Methotrexate as a last resort.

I have a great young rhuemy who is up-to-date with lots of

treatments! He doesn't have many young patients so I am guinea pig

for him to some degree....but, I am giving everything a try. I will

let you know if I find anything helpful! I know many of you have

suffered with this disease (like my mom) for many years. I am just

starting out and staying positive - a good attitude can go along

way :)

Look forward to sharing my updates with everyone!

I'm on Enbrel for RA and Lyrica for fibro. I, too, miss the

occasional glass of wine with dinner or a pint of Guinness on St.

Paddy's. Just one of many tradeoffs in our lives. It's great that you

have a young, proactive rheumy. My mom had severe RA also. I went

through Plaquenil, sulfasalazine, and MTX, remicade, and now on

Enbrel only due to side effects of all the aforementioned. Hoping

much success with your treatments.
