Guest guest
Did your doctor send you to the opthamalogist before starting you on the plaquenil for a retinal exam? I had to have one before beginning the medication and have to go for one every 6 months. bamanut3002 <bamanut3002@...> wrote: I was wondering if anyone had experienced blurred or reduced vision. I have P/RA. I have been taking 12.5 of MTX /wk, 400 mg Plaquenil / day and 1 MG folic acid. I have been on these meds for 5 weeks and this is the first med's that I have taken. My P seems to be spreading and worsending and so is the RA symptoms and I am having vision problems. I have been blaming the reduced vision on being 40 + years old now but I am beginning to wonder if the disease or the medicine could be the culprit. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris
Guest guest
Hi Chris. I, too was taking Plaquenil in the beginning and it did the same thing to me - made my vision blurry - that is one of the side effects. Let your Rheumatologist know - they can put you on a different med. Good Luck..........Doreen
Guest guest
Hello , No, he did not send me to a opthamalogist but I am going to try to get an appointment very soon. I am thinking it would be better for him to refer me. Therefore, I think that I am going start by calling and letting him know that I am concerned. It worries me a little when I hear that one doctor takes extrordinary precautions and others don't. This is one of the reasons that I joined this group. Thanks for the responses. Guest guest
Hi I have been on plaquenil for ten years and my Rheumy sends me for eye exams every six months. I was told at the beginning that it was possible for the plaquenil to cause problems with the eyes; but, that if this did happen I could go off the plaquenil and it would correct itself. As the others have suggested, I would call your Rheumy. - - In , " bamanut3002 " <bamanut3002@...> wrote: > > I was wondering if anyone had experienced blurred or reduced vision. I > have P/RA. Guest guest
That's a very good idea Chris! I go to U of Michigan for treatment and many I have spoken to had to go have an exam of the retina to get a baseline reading. Plaquenil can cause retinal toxicity. I've been on it for a little over 2 and a half years and they have me come in every six months to make sure that everything still looks good. That way, if they see a problem they can stop the drug immediately and begin something new. This is a really great group that you have come to full of knowledgeable, caring, supportive people with great advice:) bamanut3002 <bamanut3002@...> wrote: Hello , No, he did not send me to a opthamalogist but I am going to try to get an appointment very soon.
