Mea Culpa,

I send over 120 emails a day, on a normal day, 99% of them fully

work/business, not dpg/listserv related.

Stop reading now if you're politically sensitive.

And, I'd read that Michele Obama was supporting the pizza sauce as veggie

bill. (If you sleep with the president, are you NOT a part of his

administration?) - Oh, unless you're Hillary, who I don't know what she does

since

her daughter was born, since her hubby has been sleeping with other women

for 30+ years now, and she's known it all along - we've known some of his

body guards when he was in ARK - her " disbelief during the Lewinski trials

was all faked and pulled the wool over SO many American women's eyes. . .

they actually felt sorry for her. . .sigh. Folks, sometimes nutrition IS

politics - and who you should believe/or not. Sadly, most politicians can't

be believed. But, I digress. . . ;-} Sorry, couldn't resist. (If you're

offended, you were WARNED to stop reading earlier, so don't complain now!)

First lady Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced

the new guidelines during a visit Wednesday with elementary students.

And, yes, I was " thinking " pizza sauce, but " said " catsup. . . .-But, that

was in error too, since I don't consider pizza sauce as a condiment. . .

And, I know very few pizzas that spread 2 T. tom paste per slice. (It

seems commercial pizza rarely has but a little slathering of tomato on it. . .)

Digna - re: " Condiment Chart " - I'd assume that's a lot different than a

" Spice Chart " that I used when Food Service Director years ago. I clearly

don't consider herbs and spices " condiments " - other than pepper. But, my new

favorite condiment, chimichurri sauce, IS full of herbs. (I've been

hanging out with a few Argentineans this winter.)

That is a very good article and points out the fact that no one has once said

that Pizza is counted as a veggie or even pizza sauce, just tomato paste, which

is contained in pizza sauce, as well as spaghetti sauce, and marinara sauce.

However the focus has hit pizza and stopped there. This is not a new issue,

this controversy has been going on ever since I can remember with both tomato's

and tomato derivatives. Its not just this administration, this one is just

getting hit harder because for once we have a first lady who is active in trying

to help get nutritional information out there and promote health for our kids.

Lets give her credit for that rather than just blaming her for a controversy

that has been around since I was a kid.

A-ha-ha!!

Jan,

I guess there's always something lost in translation when I'm involved. In

Spanish we use the word " condimentos " to indicate " seasonings " , so I assumed

the original request referred to herbs and spices. I don't have nor did I

develop a condiments in the English language meaning of any type.

And as you know, I agree with all your comments, below. Again you lift my

spirit and improve my mood even at the end of a marginally productive (as

judged by my numbers) but incredibly busy and beneficial (for the residents

I managed and nurses I worked with) day.

That is a very good article and points out the fact that no one has once

said that Pizza is counted as a veggie or even pizza sauce, just tomato

paste, which is contained in pizza sauce, as well as spaghetti sauce, and

marinara sauce. However the focus has hit pizza and stopped there. This is

not a new issue, this controversy has been going on ever since I can

remember with both tomato's and tomato derivatives. Its not just this

administration, this one is just getting hit harder because for once we have

a first lady who is active in trying to help get nutritional information out

there and promote health for our kids. Lets give her credit for that rather

than just blaming her for a controversy that has been around since I was a

First, tomato is technically a fruit, not a veggie. Second, the First Lady, nor

any other part of the President's administration, nor the Federal government for

that matter, should have anything to do with school lunch policies. It just

doesn't pass the test of the Constitution limitations on the Gov. Of course,

neither does much of what they do, despite swearing an oath to defend and uphold

it.

That is a very good article and points out the fact that no one has once said

that Pizza is counted as a veggie or even pizza sauce, just tomato paste, which

is contained in pizza sauce, as well as spaghetti sauce, and marinara sauce.

However the focus has hit pizza and stopped there. This is not a new issue, this

controversy has been going on ever since I can remember with both tomato's and

tomato derivatives. Its not just this administration, this one is just getting

hit harder because for once we have a first lady who is active in trying to help

get nutritional information out there and promote health for our kids. Lets give

her credit for that rather than just blaming her for a controversy that has been

around since I was a kid.

Did you clock your time? Goodness, if we don’t stick together even with

opposing views, we really are done for now… No hope for our future. We’re

sleeping with the enemy, the enemy is us. Everyone has to stop being bitchy to

each other. Jan was not and her apology was well intended and should be

accepted.

Truthfully, it’s like, who cares? Why are we arguing over tomato sauce vs

ketchup vs a fresh tomato at this point when there are so many really crucial

issues not only to our country’s future, but to the world’s? Get off the

political blame. After all, who votes for all these “winners and who’s

actually simple enough to believe the words their publicists puts in front of

them?

Ladies, GROW UP! (note I didn’t say gents, bc I have yet to read one of these

from our male colleagues. There must be a good reason for that.
