I am afraid it is to late to put that genie back in the bottle. A little helpful

nutritional news would be nice. Something to do with humans not mice. Preferably

something tasty and good for you like chocolate. :)

Diane,

Since the way politicians rule and agencies fund actually dictates the

public’s need and ability to use our services I completely disagree with your

comment. Politics helps grease the wheel and keep the pork barrels full. Our

profession, the healthcare profession, depends on politics. Othersie, why are

most people dependent on what their insurance pays for healthcare services, and

will buy a $50K Porche, and a $500 pair of Famolares, but resent paying $150

bucks for nutrition services that could save their lives? Nah, they’d rather

go for another manicure/pedicure and pay a $5 co-pay for the RD.

The Academy sponsors many listserves that don’t allow this type of discussion

and sensor and reprimand it severely. If we want bland agreement and more

controlled, less controversial comments, that’s the “go to†place.

I thank the forward thinker that owns this list, and keeps quiet for the most

part until we get ourselves into trouble. It takes more self-control than I

have, that’s for sure.

I don’t campaign for or against because of their state or country of origin or

their religion. I do object to some practices, policies, dictums and beliefs as

well as to any dogma that damns a race, sex or gender and limits freedom.

I have personally known, still call friends, and worked for many people who

practice the Mormon religion, and disagree with some practices but respect

others. The thing is, although we are what we eat, we aren’t who we vote for,

agree with, or rules us. I do not believe that the false promises made by

politicians are true, because so far none have come to fruition. What party

they are representing does not hide their lies years later. It’s like taking

a tour through Universal Studios or the Wax Museum, what you see is not what you

get, and if the AC goes off during a hot spell the façade goes away as the wax

melts.

During the 10 or so years I worked in Utah (commuting from CA) my only complaint

was I wasn’t able to buy liquor where/when I wanted to. I was treated the same

as I am here, I worked the same, I didn’t see any pregnant females running

around barefoot. Are there multiple wives? Yes indeed! I’m glad I’m not one

of them. Are there multiple husbands? Hell, no! Hmm, too bad for me. Is there

abuse of young girls recruited for early bridehood? I’m sure there is although

I did not witness it, nor did I find out about it until it became national news.

However, t

What I’m saying is, if enough women don’t vote for Santorum and there are

not enough votes then he won’t win. But if they do, and he wins, then that’s

what the majority chose including all the women that voted for him. That is the

system your country created and uses. If all of the people in the US and

territories don’t like it, then change it! Take away their power, change

congress, change the senate, forbid campaigning the way they do, and forbit $38K

a plate campaign and fund raising dinners. Take away their private jets

including AF 1 & AF 2, take away their paid vacations, cushioned chairs, aides

and interns, free dinners, free limos, free rides. Then things will change. In

the meantime, damning our own members for expressing their opposite pole

opinions rudely and with accusatory statements masked behind “nutrition†is

wrong and petty, and not really facing the reality we’re living in.

That’s all I’m saying. And really Madalyn, neither of us is in danger of

being pregnant, although I like running around barefooted in summer.

You know I love and respect you, but please, look around at the way others are

and live, and what your and my daughters and g/children are facing now and in

their futures, bc I don’t see anything nice.

And as far as my comments before. We are struggling as a profession, yet we

That is a very good article and points out the fact that no one has once said

that Pizza is counted as a veggie or even pizza sauce, just tomato paste, which

is contained in pizza sauce, as well as spaghetti sauce, and marinara sauce.

However the focus has hit pizza and stopped there. This is not a new issue, this

controversy has been going on ever since I can remember with both tomato's and

tomato derivatives. Its not just this administration, this one is just getting

Mea Culpa,

I send over 120 emails a day, on a normal day, 99% of them fully

work/business, not dpg/listserv related.

Stop reading now if you're politically sensitive.

And, I'd read that Michele Obama was supporting the pizza sauce as veggie

bill. (If you sleep with the president, are you NOT a part of his

administration?) - Oh, unless you're Hillary, who I don't know what she does

since

her daughter was born, since her hubby has been sleeping with other women

for 30+ years now, and she's known it all along - we've known some of his

body guards when he was in ARK - her " disbelief during the Lewinski trials

was all faked and pulled the wool over SO many American women's eyes. . .

they actually felt sorry for her. . .sigh. Folks, sometimes nutrition IS

politics - and who you should believe/or not. Sadly, most politicians can't

be believed. But, I digress. . . ;-} Sorry, couldn't resist. (If you're

offended, you were WARNED to stop reading earlier, so don't complain now!)

First lady Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced

the new guidelines during a visit Wednesday with elementary students.

And, yes, I was " thinking " pizza sauce, but " said " catsup. . . .-But, that

was in error too, since I don't consider pizza sauce as a condiment. . .

And, I know very few pizzas that spread 2 T. tom paste per slice. (It

seems commercial pizza rarely has but a little slathering of tomato on it. . .)

Digna - re: " Condiment Chart " - I'd assume that's a lot different than a

" Spice Chart " that I used when Food Service Director years ago. I clearly

don't consider herbs and spices " condiments " - other than pepper. But, my new

favorite condiment, chimichurri sauce, IS full of herbs. (I've been

hanging out with a few Argentineans this winter.)

We are struggling as a profession, yet we

cannot even get along via emails on a listserve. How can we come to agreements

and work together towards a common goal, ignoring politics, race, gender, sex,

religion? Until we do that, we can’t. So we’ll always be the way we’ve

been…………

Digna,

I agree with you too. It's just that the " how can any woman vote for him "

comment crossed the line--sounded judgemental, like if you are a woman who votes

for Santorum this comment makes it sound like you are either crazy or beneath

this woman's ability to value.

But I see where you are coming from, and I agree. Just that the tone sounded

unprofessional, and I didn't expect it on a listserv that I thought was safe

from unprofessional judgements. I can get that on Facebook.

Respectfully,

Diane

Besides, we all get one vote. Nobody should be demeaned or criticized (even

ahead of time) for the way they might vote. Furthermore, if Santorum is

President, he would not put Madalyn, nor her daughters or grandaughters,

barefoot in the kitchen. However, if we keep losing jobs at the rate we are now,

we might be barefoot and in our kitchens more.

hit harder because for once we have a first lady who is active in trying to help

get nutritional information out there and promote health for our kids. Lets give

her credit for that rather than just blaming her for a controversy that has been

around since I was a kid.

Are you attributing Madalyn’s comment to me? Or did you find my comment

unprofessional? If it sounded that way please point out to me where. I really

believe and support free speech as a constitutional right in this country. Rules

were not broken as there was no porn and no profanity. Madalyn has as much a

right to express her concerns as the rest of us, and she did. I’ve never met

anyone more professional in her conduct and approach and am privileged to be

among her friends and professional associates. I personally did not find any of

this discussion unprofessional, as each of us participating in the debate

expressed their fears and opinions quite well.

In a sponsored list, the “monitors†would send a warning message. Here we

all have to control ourselves and get along. I personally have learned a lot

from this discussion, which as far as I’m concerned we’ve beaten to death

and I must abandon now.

Diane

I “buy†those little buckets of margarita mix that you add tequila (cheap

stuff) to and freeze. You’d have to come here to share it with me.
