Guest guest
Dear Leon, Being new to methotrexate, I would suggest several things. Many of us took 1 mg of folic acid each day of the week except the day of your methotrexate dosage. This helps with side effects like mouth sores, bone marrow suppression and fatigue. You may also experience nausea and vomiting as your dose goes higher. There are several newer anti-nausea meds out now like Zofran and Kytril that can help with that and do not cause drowsiness or dry mouth. Be sure to get your labs done each month. My own doctor does a full chemistry including CBC with differential, liver function, kidney function, sedimentation rate and C-Reactive Protein. Your may do more or less -- but usually the liver and kidney function and CBC are a bare minimum. I hope this helps,
Guest guest
Hi Donna; I have had others say their liver ached. Can you describe that pain for me. I am also on MTX and have been non-stop for about 10 years. I have blood tests monthly but it never hurts to be aware of what might happen. Thanks Granny Patty/Missouri > > Hi Lina, > > Welcome to the group...you will learn much here and you are not alone. I am curious...the 231 in you address...is that your area code? If so are you in Michigan? I am i Michigan... > > Just have your blood checked and have the doctor tell you what is going on. You will soon learn how to read your body and what it's telling you. I was on MTX for almost 3 years. Near the end my liver ached a little but there was no problem with it. I had good results with the P but didn't notice much difference with the PA. > > As to natural way...there is diet and some herbs and vitamins that help but no cure. We are all waiting for a cure. Hang in there...ask questions and everyone is willing to share. > > Donna
Guest guest
Welcome Lina - Unfortunately the treatment for this disease is sometimes worse than the disease itself - in my opinion anyhow. I don't know of any natural treatment other than a good diet of natural foods, little red meats and fats, lots of fruit and veggies, but some say no nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and eggplant) I have heard that Vitamin E helps - I take that but also MTX, prednisone, etc. etc. and am starting Enbrel soon. In my opinion, nothing fixes it, but the drugs make me able to try to live my life, although it will never be the same life I had before. Best of luck to you,
Guest guest
Patty, I felt swollen on the right side close to the ribs, yet in the center of that area too. I have had my gallbladder out years before. It wasn't a sharp pain, but a constant ache. Never let up, sometimes the pain was less but still there, and then sometimes it would really ache harder. Let's see, I have this dog tippy, when she wants something she will put her chin on my leg. If I don't pay attention to her the pressure continually gets harder and harder. The pain was like that in a way. Hope that vague discription helps in some way. Donna

Guest guest
My husband has severe psoriatic arthritis and the Enbrel didn't work for him either. He went back on Remecade infusions, which did work originally. Now, with going back on Remecade after the Enbrel, the remecade isn't doing as well. He just went for a bone scan to see if something else is causing the pain. The rheumatologist says the Remecade should be working, especially for psoriatic arthritis.
