What about diet? Already consuming adequate, daily intakes of legumes,

nuts, seeds plus adequate fluid when blood draw is done, since dehydration may

elevate levels?

When I worked in a clinic on a statin research project many years ago, (at

least 18 years ago) I was asked to " be sure people were on a chol.

lowering diet. " Turns out most of them " thought they were " but had no clue

about

what to ADD, not just lowering fat intake.

We ADDED the above and well over 50% (I don't recall exact numbers) had to

drop out of the research, since their lipids returned to normal with diet

alone. These were people that had been previously selected as appropriate

for the study based on their previous diet attempts. But, many said

something to the order of: " The other RD just taught me about how to reduce my

fat intake. Then never insisted on a level of how much soluble fiber to ADD

to my diet- and needing more water.. "

That's when I realized how much of what RDs are teaching is inadequate -

based on what we learned in school instead of current research.

I STILL meet people with high lipids that don't know about soluble fiber!

Not to mention all the other diet/nutrition issues related to lipid levels.

My patient could not tolerate statins and I want to start her on CoQ10

prior to a second trial on a statin. Does anyone have a suggestions as to

dosage (100 mg? 200 mg?) and duration prior to reintroducing a statin?

Thank you
