Hi

It is scary when you first go onto methotrexate (mtx) - I know all about

that fear :) But mtx has put me into remission twice now - the first time

remission lasted for 4 happy years. I'm currently in a drug-induced

remission, after my 3rd flare which started in Jan 2005: I take

sulphasalzine and mtx and have been in remission for 2 years now.

Be brave and give it a go. Remember, regular blood tests while you are on it

mean any effects on your white blood count or liver function are picked up

early.

never heard remission for RA till I came to the group. TWo ways to

get remission, naturaly or drug induced. Awe that is so cool. Twice

the chance for remission. Thank you so much . I take MXT but

nothing yet good or bad. Start humira in 4 weeks.

hugs everyone till later lol

Omg no, I saw on here where some one was getting injections of mtx

twice week. I take 2 a day. So that would be 14 a week. And no, she

hasnt prescribed folic acid in weeks. I take them on my own.

OMG I hope she was educated in the USA. But I noticed with me all my

doctors are that way. My lung doctor, My heart doctor, My primary

doctor, and now my rheumatoid doctor. I have to tell them every

visit what meds to prescribe. Well not every time. One time I ran in

the hall hollering aren't you going to refill my prescriptions, that

was my heart doctor. I am sure he is educated here.

The last visit If she didnt do something about this pain I was going

to request for a new rheumy, Yes sir re. lol. I would have been

boiling mad. After the help I have heard this support group gets and

this lady let me suffer for a year. She is from India.lol It seems

like my doctors are in such a hurry to get in and get out. If others

are not having this problem, I must have jackass across my forhead.

I take my husband with me to each doctor visit. I think he spoke up

at the rheumys because he is tired of doing house work. haaaaaaaa.

just kidding. He dont want me to suffer.

She did help me and I am going to mention the folic acid. I have a

new insurance. I was on medicaid with my mecicare. Its changed in

the last few months. I am on Carolina Solutions and medicare now.

When I see a specialist, it has to be through my primary doctor.

THat scares me. I was going to complain like hell if my rheumy didnt

do something. But thats only after I read about all the other meds

my group is taking. I dont know if thats why she help me. But I was

getting pretty darn mad. I almost cried in her office a few days

ago. Telling her how much pain I was in.

gentle hugs to everyone

,

I want to defend my rheummy. She is from Belgium and I couldn't ask

for a more caring doctor. If I have needed to call the office because

of a real problem she always is the one who calls me back. At my

visits she listens and is very supportive. She is the one that

referred me to the GREAT neuro-surgeon that I just love.

This is the only foreign doc that I have ever been to and thank God it

has been a good thing for me.

My neighbor, Judy, saw my rheummy last Friday. She didn't think that

Judy had RA but did have a major problem in the same family. They did

a lot of blood work. She called Judy Tuesday, told her it is Lupus and

gave her an appointment for today. So far Judy is impressed with her

also.

Sorry to be so long, just want to share about this caring doctor.

>

> Clora, did I read that you only take 2 mtx a week? And the Dr has

not prescribed folic acid for you? 2 mtx a week is a VERY light dose,

I thought Drs started at 3. I know you said your Dr is foreign, can

you switch Drs? For me, my Dr must be educated in the USA. in PA

I think all of us were scared or at the least apprehensive about

taking MTX. My daughter was more scared than me. I wanted to reach

out and grab anything to maintain mobility and independence. I did

have some reactions but nothing servere.

I hope you get the optimum results!

Heidi and , you are both so thoughtful and caring. You are

the people that makes this group so wonderful to be a part of.

FOUND SULFAZINE, HYDROXCHOROQUINE AND LIDODERM PATCHES, SO SORRY, CANT

FIND ANY MTX. I CANT READ WITHOUT MY GLASSES I ASSUMED I WAS TAKING

METHTRIEXATE STILL. NO I CANT SEE ANY METHOTRIXATE YET. I WAS SURE I

Thanks for your kind concern. I am not taking methotrixate any more.

I have taken so much medication in the last few years, I have 4

different doctors whom are specialist, I am on about 30 medications.

I knew I use to take MTX and I was confused about everyone calling

it a cancer type drug. The cancer type drug I was taking I took

folic acid with. And I had a severe allergic reaction to it. I had

allergic reactions to a lot of meds. It took a while to get right

ones for me.

My RA doctor is from India. She does explain very carefully and

sometimes over and over. My husband seems to remember more than I

do. He takes me to my doctor visits so he knows whats going on, and

good thing he does because I have forgotton a lot of directions she

has given me. I have a sound mind so far at 54.

When I was taking them she took blood work every visit. She had a

set up there to do blood work. I feel a lot better taking the

prednisone, as I have said before its only for 4 weeks. I dont know

why I cant keep taking it. I do take a lot of medication from

different doctors it could be cause of what I take i don't know.

I am so glad you like my post. Sometimes I am afraid I am talking to

much. I have a tendancy to talk a lot in person with family and

friens, as they would kid me about. I love to make jokes and be a

comedian. Making people laugh makes me feel good. However; I tend to

get in trouble sometimes saying the wrong joke. Oh no , I never say

dirty jokes. I just may joke at a time when I may have not suppose

to. I have learned a lot in 54 years lol. So I dont upset people

like a did when I was younger haaaaaaaaaa.

Haaaaaaaaaaa, My pharmacist knows me by name. So does all the

workers in the drug store. Thanks so much Chriss, I love reading

your post too. I read everyones post. I have learned a lot here.

Love everyone here

gentle hugs

Clora

> Hi Clora,

> So glad you are feeling so much less pain at the moment.Love your

posts.

> This note is a follow on to all the others who have been concerned

about how you are taking MTX,that is daily and without, until

recently, folic acid. This would certainly go against present

prescribing advice and safety as far as I know. Not only safer but

better effects on the immune processs are achieved by weekly pulsing.

> Try googling 'daily methotrexate' and the results show clearly it

is not reccommended.I would suggest you contact your prescribing

doctor and query it strongly. You could ask a friendly pharmacist to

check it out too first so you feel more confident to query?. They

are usually very keen to help make sure this kind of drug is safely

and correctly prescribed. For example if the patient has English as

their second language, they go over very carefully warning that it

only once a WEEK, because most people would expect to take daily

meds of course.

> It sounds as though you have been on this regime some time?, which

in a way is reassuring, because I trust your blood counts and liver

tests have stayed OK?

Yes,

MTX is the abbreviation for Methotrexate. It is really easy to get confused

about the drugs your take if you take quite a few. I am glad you have a

supportive husband and doc that really explains things. That in combo with a

good pharmacist is a good combo.

Sue and Group;

Awe thanks Sue, It wasn't always like that haaaa. That is normal. Life

the cooking and cleaning. He would when I had the flue or something.

Everyone. I haven't been able to clean like I use to in a few years,

than I couldnt clean and cook at all. He does it all. haaaaaaaa. He

does it better than I did. lol If I only knew way back when, that he

was able to cook and clean reguraly. haaaaaaa. We adore each other. I

am very fortunat to have the old goat. O wait a minute. He is 3 years

younger than me. haaaaaaaaa.

Thanks, Yes I am lucky to have a supportive husband, good doc and a

great pharmacist. They catch any mistakes for me. I do take a lot of

meds for heart, lungs, diabetes, depression, RA and fibro. Oh and

sleep apnea I use a C-pap. IBS see I forget what I even have

sometimes. Thats good I don't dwell on them at least lol. Actually

for me I think RA is the worst thing I have.
