Guest guest
s Hopkins Arthritis Center Last update: 02:25 PM Thursday, April 26, 2007 Methotrexate and getting pregnant My husband takes methotrexate for dermatomyositis. We have 1 child we conceived befoer he got sick. He has been on methotrexate for 2 years. How long does he have to stop before we can try to conceive? Will this affect his fertility? Methotrexate should not affect his fertility. In men, methotrexate needs to be stopped 90 days prior to attempting pregnancy. Women need to be off 2 ovulatory cycles (2 menstral periods). Thus is due to the small possibility of birth defects associated with methotrexate use during conception and pregnancy. http://www.hopkins-arthritis.org/ask-the-expert/treatment-020003/methotrexate-an\ d-getting-pregn-877.html -- Not an MD
