" Arthritis: MRI to Diagnose Arthritis " :

In diagnosing arthritis, an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan can

be helpful. MRI scan is a test that produces very clear pictures of

the human body without the use of X-rays. MRI uses a large magnet,

radio waves, and a computer to produce these images.

Q. Is MRI of value in the clinical setting for arthritis patients?

When is an x-ray or MRI ordered to help detect erosions and joint

damage related to arthritis? Are x-rays still ordered more often than

MRI? Are MRI scans becoming more common?
