Guest guest
Hi Shirley and thank you! For me, my problem is and will be ongoing forever. I have degenerative disc disease so my discs will continue to rupture and pinch nerves. I have lived with it for 6 years now (I am 35) and will deal with it for the rest of my life. I have no screws or metals but I have been fused at 5/6. My neuro and I chose to have the surgery with no metal because of the future surgeries I will need. I also see an orthoapedic (sp?) surgeon and they both work well for me. I am trying to buy enough time to wait for approval for the artificial disc after a fusion. The artificials have been approved but not for patients with prior fusions. More studies I guess. Anyway, thanks for your prayers and kind words! Are you seeing a neuro-surgeon or an orthopedic doctor? I don't know if it makes a difference, but I went to a neuro. He was wonderful! I have a plate and 3 screws in my cervical spine from the 2 herniated disk. He removed the spurs also. Everything seems to be doing great so far. At first my rheummy was going to send me for shots but after the MRI, insisted that I had to see a neuro. I did get a second opinion before the surgery just to see if there was any other treatment. Don't hesitate to do this. The neuro did the referral and my insurance covered it. I am so sorry that both of you are going through this. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
