Guest guest
Thanks for this, . I thought that it was very interesting. It seems that it is hard to have a red-headed child: " Red hair is caused by a mutation in the MC1R gene. It's also a recessive trait, so it takes both parents passing on a mutated version of the MC1R gene to produce a redheaded child. Because it's a recessive trait, red hair can easily skip a generation. It can then reappear after skipping one or more generations if both parents, no matter their hair color, carry the red hair gene. " I didn't know that my father also had to have the red hair gene in order for two of my five siblings to have red hair, and that my mother's father as well as her red-headed mother, had to have the gene. I used to be blonde, and so did my husband, and all three of our children had blonde hair as children. With age, it has darkened. Guest guest
That really is interesting. I had no idea my blonde mother must carry the gene too, since I never met any redheads in her family. My Dad won out with red hair color 5 out of 6 times and he won the eye color battle 6 of 6 times. We all have his blue eyes, although some of us have very blue eyes and others (like me) have more blueish gray. My mother's genes seemed to fight back a bit with my brother, though. 1/2 of one eye is green. This baby is due in a couple of weeks, I'll let you guys know if any of my red genes squeaked in there, or if my husband managed to produce another clone of himself like our son! ps - we thought the blood type thing was funny in our family too. Rh factor is more complex than blood type, I've heard, since there are multiple genes that control whether we're + or -. Both my parents are O+. All of us are O+ as well, except one sister who was the rebel. She's O- and the Red Cross is calling her *constantly* Re: [ ] ARTICLE - Are redheads going extinct? Thanks for this, . Guest guest
Since I have a red-headed grandson, I realize that I must have the gene too, and passed it on to my son. I haven't seen any redheads in my husband's family. My mother had blue eyes, too, with her red hair. I have green eyes, and my husband and all three of our kids do, too.
